I plan to use the stock AC controller for our trucks. so if I put the controller to defrost and the temp lever to warm the AC compressor will not turn on? is that due to a temp control that turns the Compressor off. and that is what the override is for?

Yes, the Old Air kit provides a bracket and microswitch that mounts to the back side of the factory controller that is activated by moving the temp slide control to the cold side. This is what activates the a/c compressor unless you add another switch to override the microswitch and allow the compressor to operate with the temp set to other than full cold.

So the only thing that ativates the ac compressor is the temp lever in the cold position?

I got the new starter installed and wired up with new battery cables. Turned the engine over with the starter for the first time! Put in the coolant, tranny fluid, and gearbox lube. Ran the wire for the electric fuel pump and ordered a new GM HEI distributor, so as soon as I get that I can fire up the engine.

So I got the distributor installed and started up the engine. Got it up to temp and set the timing, everything seems to be working good. Other than a leak at one of the radiator hoses there were no issues. I tried to upload a video but it didn't work, I guess it was too long or something. I am using the Joe Gibbs break in oil I bought at NAPA and its holding about 50 psi oil press. I have to get the rest of the truck together so I can drive it to finish the break in process so I don't want to run it too much, but will start it occasionally to keep the oil circulated until then.

I have been working finishing up the wiring and getting the dash finished. Also cut the holes in the speaker panels and finished up the stereo install. Ready for carpet.

I got the carpet kit from LMC installed. Not really happy with it but it will work for now. At some point in the future I plan to install a complete, custom interior once my new bucket seats are recovered. For now the stock interior will get me on the road.

The front wiring is done except for securing the wires after I get the fenders on.

I put the Old Aire glovebox in and added another 12V plug inside so I can charge electronics out of sight. The small plug is for a MP3 player to feed the stereo. Glovebox door is still at the paint shop along with the ashtray.


I also installed my new shifter boot.


I think the next project will be to install the steering wheel and the bench seat. Also need to get the glass guy out here to put in the windshield and back glass.

It's been a while since I posted any updates. Lots of little details and just waiting for the bed to get painted. Installed the steering wheel(finally got the horn to work!), and installed the stock bench seat.



Also finished the underhood wiring, secured everything and installed the hood hinges. I have to wait until the cowl cover gets painted before I can install the hood. Installed the windshield with new trim and seal.



Got the inner door panels painted and installed with all new regulators and window and door handles.

Well, the truck actually ran down the road under it's own power today. The bed is painted but not on the truck yet. I need to replace my steering shaft, or at least the slip coupler. Any recommendations?

We put the bed together today.

Finally got the decals for the tailgate in and thought I would post some pics with it all together. Still have a few minor details to finish up in the interior and engine compartment, but it is basically done.

Thanks, I looked at your build thread too, I can't get enough of these 4X4 build projects. There are a lot of them on this site and I have learned a lot from everyone. I Can't wait to see your '59 project start coming together. I have some ideas about my next project as well. I still have the 283/SM465/Rockwell T221 set up I removed from this '69 sitting on the floor. I am thinking about a 65/66 SWB roller to convert to 4wd, or even starting with a long bed and cutting it down. What do you think?
