Radiator Flushed

Pretty sure the radiator is original to the truck and time to get a new one. Flushed it this past weekend for a long while. There are some floaties there still. Looks WAY better now. Only had about 1 1/4 gallons in their that drained out. I should have just bought a new radiator probably?

Did you just flush it or did you back flush it too. Some of the bigger chunks won't come out unless you back flush it....

Not sure what that means (I'm new to this) ?We popped the hose off of manifold and put garden hose in there, turned the heater on high and ran it for 10 -15 minutes. Rinse repeat, most of the crud was sitting at the bottom of the radiator. We ran the hose in the radiator at the top/bottom hose and the cap..

I figured it helped but looking at the fluid in there just looks like it picked up more crap not as much for sure but still.

Spent about 3 hours total running, rinsing etc.

Back flushing is flushing in the opposite direction the water normally flows. If you did all of that you should have it covered. If you didn't, be sure and use a radiator flush or cleaner. It dissolves the rust and other contaminants so they will flush out of the core and tanks. You can get it at any auto parts store. Be sure and read the directions.

Re: Radiator Flushed

When I replaced my radiator, I drove for a few days with nothing but water and radiator flush. Then, removed radiator hoses and heater hoses (replaced them) and removed thermostat housing and block drain plugs on both sides. Flushed heater core (forwards and backwards) till water ran clear. Flushed block with garden hose in thermostat opening till water ran clear from block drains. Flushed radiator with from cap opening and inlet hose (driver side) till water ran clear. Let everything finish draining, then close up, reattach all hoses, then filled with 50/50 mix of Prestone/distilled water (+ 12oz bottle of Water Wetter).
