light wood grain decals
Hello to everyone, I'm thinking of putting in wood grain decals on my dash, glove box door and the face of my ash tray in my 72 Chevy C10 pickup. I seen a number of them but they all have dark wood grain. Does anyone know if they sell lighter decals and if so, where? I sure would appreciate any help.

Re: light wood grain decals
The reproduction pre-cut woodgrain is dark to be as close to original as possible. If you want to do your own thing you are on your own...and on your way to the satisfaction of created what others can't buy. I would use automotive grade vinyl material. Interiors get a lot hotter than cupboard shelves. You may be able to have a vinyl sign shop print up the woodgrain you need, if an example can be found. They could also cut it out for you if you aren't confident with that.

I thank you gentleman, now that I think about it all the original inserts I've seen in these trucks was dark. I'd like to try some lighter stuff but I'm not very good in cutting out the gauges perfectly and it probably would be cheaper to just buy the pre-cut decal. If I decide to do that I'll just get the pre-cut dark grain. Thanks guys for your input, I appreciate it.
Hey notsolo, nice truck. I really like that. You did a very good job. |

Re: light wood grain decals
Try to find a local sign shop. My trim is black, but instead of repainting it I had my sign guy cut 3/8" and I think 1 1/2" strips of satin black car wrap vinyl he had in stock. Went on great and should hold up well. Cost was $80 and I have a bunch left over

Snake72, that really came out nice. I'll bet the vinyl will last much longer than paint. Nice job.

Re: light wood grain decals
Thanks, it looks fantastic in person, peel and stick man. I would imagine any vinyl sign shop could replicate about any color or pattern you could think of. Might be able to get pretty creative on custom trucks.

That was a great idea and it looks excellent, I'm sure it will last a long time on a well cared for truck. You should talk to a sign shop and see what they can do. I know of a guy who built a truck years ago...twice! He was a true freak. The second time he did all the woodgrain inside and out in a lighter colored wood veneer, It looked really nice,

Re: light wood grain decals
Does anyone make a template for the gauge panels? Or or a digital file? I think if you had one of those the sky would be the limit to what you could come up with.
