67-72 Motor mount strength?
Im putting a 454, 10:1 compression, ported 049 heads, large cam, and some other goodies into my 71 k10.
Ive clearenced the firewall, and am modifying the oem crossmember to fit. My concern is the oem style motor mounts. The pad with the bolt that bolts into the center. Are new poly mounts in this style sufficient? Was looking at the energy suspension brand. The diy4x competition poly mounts for 73-87 caught my eye too. Anyone use these on a 67-72 k10?

Re: 67-72 Motor mount strength?
You should make serious power with 049s , I had one in a 72 chevelle ,,, 650 foot pounds gets your attention .. as long as you have the interlocking mounts you should be good , energy suspension are quality pieces , make sure you get the right ones some are 2 3/8s some are 2 5/8s , and im sure there are other variables

Re: 67-72 Motor mount strength?
The motor was actually out of a sunken v drive hot road boat.it was down at the bottom of our river about 30 minute.
They cleaned and reassembled everything and it fires right up. Everything from the holley 750 dp to oil pan. I got the entire engine for crazy cheap, scrap price. Im just gonna run it, it has ran a while now on stand with great temps and oil pressure. Thanks for the input on the mounts, i can always change later on too.

Re: 67-72 Motor mount strength?
That cable set up was used for '65-'69 vehicles only, with the mechanical rod that actuated the carburetor. Once a cable set-up was used, starting in '70, there was no danger of the throttle being pulled wide open when the engine torqued up if a motor mount broke. Optionally, one could opt for interlocking motor mount installation. Most people who were out of warranty didn't do that, as the cable installation was free, as a safety recall retrofit, only.

Re: 67-72 Motor mount strength?
Im installing the diy4x crossmember for your exact concern. We reused the stock crossmember but now we're building our 454 for more power and I was worried about pulling out that tiny little bolt out in the motor mount.
The stock motor mount did hold up to the boring crate 454. |

Re: 67-72 Motor mount strength?
We are installing the "Torque Cables" on our 70 GMC K2500 as we install the new engine. I want it for pulling the tree stumps or what ever so the motor mounts don't actually break.
They look like these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-325874-19...53.m1438.l2649

Re: 67-72 Motor mount strength?
all the cable stay kits I've seen are for small blocks , I'd be more concerned about whats going to happen to your frame once you start turning loose 3 times what it was designed to handle ? Chevy twist is real .
