Re: How are the repop bedsides?

Shifting back to the original question, if the original bed for $2,000 is in good shape, that's a damn good price. I would love to have an original short bed. I would trade my Tri-plus/ OER bed in a heart beat for a factory bed in half decent shape. This is a steel floor, sides, and head board. All fit ok, needed holes opened up and some grinder work. Now I'm fighting with my tail lights not fitting right and the whole bed is out of square. Not sure how to go back to fix yet....

I couldn't have been much happier with this bed. I bolted everything together loosely, and it checked out square. Installed the tailgate, and tightened everything up. All in one evening. Had to adjust the tailgate trunions a little to fit the tailgate, and had 2 holes to open up slightly to install the RH wheel house. Very pleased with the fit of everything.

Re: How are the repop bedsides?

Hi, I don't know how to use this app but want to find out how to adjust doors. First I have to slam it and when it's shut if you push hard enuf it still goes in and out. Why going over bumps sounds like not shut all way. Have questions about door and window rubber seals. Air flows thru bad

I sure wish I lived closer! I'd definitely me making a few trips there.

This is the one on my local craigslist, although the poster isn't very local
http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/pts/5291357381.html

I could see paying the $2000 if it only needed minor work, but it all likely hood, it would probably need media blasted and by the time it's ready for paint, would be about $3000, and there's no telling what condition the insides of the panels are. I know on my current bed, the insides look worse than the outside. Personally I've never had any major problems with repop panels and would rather spend $1900 for a brand new bed than $2000 for a used one that most certainly will need work

EDIT: by inner panel, i was talking about the part not visible, the gap between the outside bedpanel and the inside bed panel. Does that make sense? I saw how bad mine were when I went to replace part of the wheel opening arch

Re: How are the repop bedsides?

With all the talk about short beds , i have a question,
how do the bolts on the front bed panel go?
into the bed , or towards the cab?,
During assembly i am wondering if the bolts will rub the back of the cab
when all done, any pics. would be helpfull

When I took mine apart, they were phillips head bolts. They were a real pain to remove. I had to tack weld a nut to the phillips head and remove them using a socket. I'll see if I can did up some pics

Re: How are the repop bedsides?

If I were to get my bedsides without the stake pocket holes, do I also have to go with no side marker light openings? I like the idea of the no stake pocket openings, but I need the side markers. I can't see anyone selling the sides with no stake pocket holes but with the side markers. It also seems like I'm better off ordering a complete kit, even though I don't need a tailgate, tailgate hardware, or wheel housings. Those are like $500 +/- for the group, but deleting them only takes a few hundred off of the entire kit. I just wonder how easy it would be to resell those items. I did find an entire bed kit for $2185 with shipping in the $300 range

Re: How are the repop bedsides?

I purchased a complete bed assembly from Southern Kentucky Classics. It was a little over 2K. Everything fit very well and was very pleased with the end result. You can dig through my build link below and see the results as it was assembled.

The heads are on the side toward the cab. Some had Phillips head screws and some had hex head bolts. Mine had Phillips head screws on one side and hex head bolts on the otherside. I know the factory did it as they were painted body color and the truck has always been in my family.

Re: How are the repop bedsides?

To anyone that has previously purchased the entire short bed kit, would I be able to fit it all in the bed of a Silverado (shortbed)? Seems like the floor might be the biggest problem. The packaging is probably longer than the Silverado bed

Re: How are the repop bedsides?

Don't think you would be able to close the tail gate. I have a small 8 foot trailer to get my stuff home. You will have the floor, both bedsides, front panel and tailgate, not to mention wheel tubs, splash guards and misc. hardware. Borrow a small trailer if possible.

Thanks for that info. I don't know anyone with a trialer so maybe I'll have to rent one. Looks like a 4x7 is $15 at Uhaul. Kind of sucks to pay $355 for shipping and find out they deliver on a tractor-trailer. There's no way that would fit on my narrow, dead end street. Maybe I'll just meet the tractor trailer with two pick up trucks. I have until Tuesday to figure something out. It was initially scheduled for delivery tomorrow, but they gave an excuse they are behind because of bad weather

I brought mine home 200 miles in the back of my F150 RCSB no problems whatsoever.

What color is the blue on your truck? I would like to go with a similar color on my '70 with a white top. The bed looks killer!

Re: How are the repop bedsides?

Thanks 70Stovebolt, the blue is a custom color.
BASF Glasurit MB765.50
The white is the correct white for a 1970 truck.

I'm questioning this as well I need rockers and cab corners and a few other items . I was told Southern Kentucky Classics makes a lot of these parts as well.

They don't make them, they just sell them. They do have a couple of unique repair panels I have't been able to find anywhere else that I think they have manufactured just for them. But I believe the larger stuff is the same Taiwan manufactured panels.
