Finally got the fuel gauge to work!
I installed a new sending unit, I just new it was going to work after that. The gauge did not work when I got the truck. After searching this forum for answers I replaced the resistor on the back of the fuel gauge. My old one tested as open lead. I bought the replacement on ebay. One more repair off the list.

Good deal! Those don't go bad very often. Thanks for posting up your solution. LockDoc

Re: Finally got the fuel gauge to work!
My son's 86 had an over voltage problem. Blew all of the resistors and headlights.

That's one of the dangers when pulling the battery cable to check the alternator for charging and revving the engine. It seems like the fuses should have protected the resistors, but the headlights aren't fused.
