centering rear wheel

Hey, i have searched all over the form for information on centering the rear wheel in the wheel opening, 1967 short fleet side. from the factory the axle looks to far forward to me. Any thoughts out there or has anyone delt with this?

Others should know more but if I remember correctly, it is more or less an optical illusion. On '67s the rear bottom of the wheel well is angled towards the back instead of coming straight down like the following years. Gives the illusion of the wheel being off center.

The "hook" on the front of the wheelwell is definitely part of it, but on a 4x4 when you lift it, it's REALLY far forward. On my Jimmy when I did the semi float 9.5" swap the custom made driveshaft I had for the 12 bolt was just a tic too short. To fix it, I re-drilled the perch 1" closer to the front for the spring pin to register.

I had already pie cut the "hook" off the front of the fender (about 3/4" wide at the bottom and about 6" up the wheelwell. Makes the whole opening round and is virtually unnoticed on my white truck.) The rear is now almost perfectly centered in a perfectly round opening.

If tire clearance had not been a problem I would not have trimmed the fender. But when I first lifted it and went to 35's they rubbed on big dips.
