Spray-in Bedliners

Looking for recent experiences with spray-in bedliners. I'm starting to think about having mine done (instead of getting it repainted) and most threads I have searched are older. Things tend to change so I'm looking for more recent input. I just removed the plastic bedliner that's been in for well over 20 years and was pleased & amazed to find only a small amount of surface rust. This is not a show truck and never will be; the bed floor is a bit wavy and the wheel tubs are kinda beat up from decades of abuse (mostly firewood). From what I've been reading, a relatively thin liner that's extremely hard would work best for me. It's not like I'm gonna hurt the value of the truck -- as it is, it would take new sheet metal to turn it into something fancy.

I have used raptor liner on bumpers,underside of truck and it is awesome stuff.

I have read several older threads with that viewpoint.... however, only if it will someday be made into a show-quality truck, or nearly so. For most of us with, um, "experienced" trucks, it doesn't matter so much.

So far I have found Line-X dealers more than three hours away so that may be out..... There is a Rhino-Liner guy about an hour from me. Haven't looked into Raptor yet, but I will.

FWIW, I have also been reading that installation matters a great deal with these products.

Install does make a big difference, if the liner separates at an edge it will let water in and hold it there. Not good.

I have a tailgate that I'm patching the inside bottom of because of that. It looked really solid until I started peeling the liner off. The areas where the the liner held in moisture were rotted thru. The areas where it was still sticking were rock solid. Bad prep damaged what was a rust free surface. It looked like they lined it over primer-covered single stage paint.

The good stuff is thick, and its forever. I don't know the applier of mine, maybe rhino(just guessing). Linex possibly, but its rock hard.

I have a Rhino liner and I WISH I'd gotten a Line-X liner. My only recommendation - for looks and for water-tightness, is to only spray up to and underneath the bedrails, not over them. Yes, can detract value, but much less so (in my opinion) if not visible over the rails - but it is entirely up to personal taste and what you intend to do with the truck. There are many times I wish all my trucks had one and times when I'm glad my old trucks don't. If it's got dents, I'd leave it alone, they tend to show thru a bedliner pretty badly. Rhino and Line-X do great prep - I just like the look *and wear) of a Line-X one later. The only reason I got the Rhino is because there wasn't a Line-X dealer in the small town I used to live in.

I've had sevearal trucks with different liners applied both diy and professional. ...hands down line-x is the best by far...

My 98 has had line x since before it came into the family in 04. It's still there and it's still in good shape. I'd use it again in a heart beat.

I wouldn't own a pickup without a spray in liner. I've done both Linex and Onyx. Both extremely durable. Hard to say for sure, but Onyx doesn't seem to fade as much.

Most of the posts agree with my experience as well. I wouldn't own a truck I use without a spray in liner over the rails.

And it's worth the 3 hour drive to get the Line-X done. By far the best liner and worth the extra costs and difficulty to get it.

Thanks for the input, guys, I appreciate it all. When the time comes (probably still quite a ways out) I will give top priority to Line-X, it seems to consistently get the best reviews. Just wish I had a dealer closer to me. Already planning on under-the-rail unless I can be convinced otherwise.

Just depends on how much you are going to work it I guess. I love the over-the rail on my 2500 HD, but I can see how a classic would look better with painted tops. All personal preference at that point.

Can Line-X color match? If I had a spray in liner I would want it over the bed rails. I like the liners that are matched to the paint color of the truck.

I went to a body shop and had the bedliner tinted to match my paint. I painted the underneath of my 70 Challenger. I would line my bed, but keep the liner uner the bedrails on these trucks

they sure can color match linex...don't know why but our local dealer has sprayed tons of yellow linex..http://www.linex.com/bedliners/xtra

I use a kit called Rocketliner, I get it at the local automotive paint store,
I've bought 2 kits in the past to be able to put more product on the surface, works great and goes on as thick as I wanna apply it.

I just had my girlfriends 93 pace truck bed Line X coated. It's very nice and looks great.

Well, now ya got me thinking.... I would prefer the look of under-the-rail, but the extra protection of over-the-rail is awfully tempting. Decisions, decisions

Doesn't show well in the pic but it's black (standard color). I've been working on her truck for over a year. It's finally looking like it should.

How much does the Line-X treatment generally cost for a short wide bed? I've never done one.

I used Raptor bedliner spray for my frame, under the cab and firewall. I will use it under the bed as well as in the bed when the bed is ready. if you never get rid of the truck it doesn't matter about the price of the truck lowering or raising, just my 0.02. anyways obviously I am for Raptor because if the area is prepped correctly it is great and you control how thick it's being applied. I want to make sure you know that I applied it myself and because of that if you go my route make sure you purchase the kit with a gun. you will need it. most kits have it with it just fyi. if you have any questions pm me and I can tell you all I know about it. good luck

New or newer truck...absolutely the way to go.
Classic truck....for me, nope.
I don't use my truck enough to warrant the need for something that heavy duty.
I do have a drop in rubber mat which suffices for most of the stuff I deal with.
I do like being able to see and access all that original steel.
It simply comes down tho'....to what you want, that is what counts with your truck.

Line-x. I've used it on a few trucks, not this one, I have wood bed. Anyhow, once you get it sprayed in... it ain't coming out, it's a done deal!
