Question big side mirror questions ? '65 c10

so I bought these painted big honkin' side mirrors and now I have a few questions about them.

1. what are these size and type side mirrors called?

2. is there a gasket that goes between the mirror bracket and the side of the truck door.. like there are on the other type mirrors ?

3. if there is a gasket... I doubt they make one.. so is it possibel to buy rubber gasket material and make my own to fit?

Thanks,

-W

1. I have always heard them called "west coast mirrors."
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
Are you sure you like them? They have always created a great deal of wind noise on my trucks, I replaced them with smaller ones. but thats my .02 worth if you like them have fun

Yep, they are West Coast Mirrors, I personally didn't like them on my truck. I replaced with the smaller original type.

I have a pair of rust free doors that are damaged from having those big mirrors solidly mounted, thye stick out a bunch & folks hit trees, garage doors, Sonic menus, etc. If you tow a lot they are great.

Thanks folks.

64fleetside,
do you have any tips on mounting these up? Fastener type, bolts.. washer.. anything special required?
You always seem to have great little nuggets of info on these trucks.

Thanks to all.

The ones that were on the doors I have were just bolted w/nuts & bolts, 5/16 X 3/4" long or so, they did have a rubber mounting pad between the door & brackets. The top ones were easily accessible but the lowers are behind the door panel. Brian

Talking

Originally the top of the mirror fastened to the top edge of the door with funky little bolts like these and cap nuts. I have no idea where you might find something similar.

The bottom of the mirrors fasten with just a regular cap nuts, bolts and washers. Adding piece of flat stock behind the sheetmetal will add strength on the bottom.

Well, that is an interesting bit I thought I would share.

I like the idea of puttin' flat stock behind the sheet metal.

A regular bolt & a grinder will replicate those oddball bolts, cap nuts are available in nickel or stainless at Lowe's, etc. A backup stip would be a good idea on the bottom mount. Brian

Re: big side mirror questions ? '65 c10

I don't care for west coast mirrors also. They just don't cut the wind and my driver side one folds on the freeway and I don't get to use it anyway. I tightened it up but still folds.
