Power steering box 5686815 help

CHECK OUT Post #5

Hey guys

I am back after a 5 year setback and starting to get the 65 back together.

I have a steering box # 5686815

I am no expert but the connections look like flare type connections on the box

Can someone please verify.

Also.. What year trucks do I search for in order to get the hoses with flare type ends? I am in the middle of ordering parts from Rock Auto and luckily checked before ordering hoses for an 85 C10 which have o-ring connectors at the box end.

Thanks!!

They look like the standard inverted flair that is on the lines from the pump. Good to see you are back at getting your truck done.

The exact same on I have, it is indeed inverted flare. Hard to find newly rebuilt ones here at Orielly or Auto-Zone but online - easy.
Welcome back and good luck on the truck.

Re: Power steering box 5686815 help

Found this Steering Box in the shed, its the newer style with O-Ring connections and also has quick turn ratio 3.25 on it.

Glad I held on to it.

Do you guys know if I can swap out the pitman arms as shown and use this pump instead or just stay with the steering box that is on the frame now??

Re: Power steering box 5686815 help

I'd stay with the "type" of gear that's on the truck - https://westernchassisinc.com/Power-...ar-Box-Rubber/
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...+Hose&_sacat=0
http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/c...sure+hose,7320
But there are options with an adapter set - https://www.summitracing.com/parts/brg-925122
http://www.autozone.com/fittings-and...dapter-fitting

Re: Power steering box 5686815 help

You have one that is a 2wd version and one that is the 4wd version. The sector shafts are different between the two and the pitman arms do not interchange. Otherwise the steering boxes are identical.

CaptainFab!! How are you sir! I was just checking out your rear disc brake set up earlier today, very nice !!

Thanks for the heads up on the steering box, gonna stick with the one already on the frame that has the flared connections.

Did you notice your adapter in the pic? I also have your brake booster adapter as well.

Re: Power steering box 5686815 help

I am doing ok, still working 80 hrs/7 days a week.

Let me know which rear disc brackets you are interested in. Sometimes these parts sell faster than I can have the parts laser cut. So sometimes there is a little wait for more parts to be laser cut.

Re: Power steering box 5686815 help

I found one after conducting a search that I haven't seen before and they say it fits:
https://oreillyauto.com/search/1969/...rwd?q=502-0109
When I run the old part number on my old box (like yours) through my local store they say they cant get it, but when I run this part # they say they can get it.
