In the wings, plans?

How many of you guys have the next truck project waiting in the wings? How many of you guys have more than one in line? How many do you actually think you will get to?

I used to have a lot of storage, hence ability to bring stuff home (a lot lol). Found out I will be losing the storage. Panicked haha, but then made plans with a buddy to go in together on a place. Then his wife put the kibosh on that plan. So I talked to the people (family-ish) I thought were going to purchase where I have my stuff stored. They were actually cool with me keeping my projects and parts if I could condense it to one little area. Hmm Ok I can probably do that. Last weekend I found out they might not be able to buy it after all. Talked to the new person that probably will buy it. They were also fine with me keeping my stuff in a condensed space.

The space I will be able to keep will hold three trucks end to end. And on the sides there is storage in stall like areas (used to be a dairy barn) I get one edge that kind of sticks out.

Here is what I have stored ... 1 67 parts truck, 1 69 parts truck. 2 extra chassis (long) 1 69 panel, 1 72 burb K10, 1 72 Short K10 (not numbers matching pile of mutt parts) And lastly a Shorty stepside in lots of pieces.

Non truck stuff ... 2 Austin A40 convertibles, 1 Austin A40 Sedan, 1 63 Sanger flat bottom boat, 1 1941 Cadillac Sedanette, 1 1981 Fiero, 1 1965 Corvair Convertible. 1 bare 1939 Ford Chassis. 1 bare 1958 Ford wagon chassis. 1 late 60's early 70's Little Joe popsicle truck (don't ask lol)

Plus tons (literally) of truck parts, engines, and transmissions, seats, doors, blah blah ... you get the point lol. Plus I am still buying parts and pieces for each of these projects as I find them. Stuff I might just end up never using and selling with the projects, just want to have in case that particular project ends up being the last truck standing.

And I have my 68 GMC K20/2500 that I love and is on the road.

Being nearly 58 there isn't any way I could get to this stuff. Turns out I'm just a hoarder of junk lol.

So whittling it down is gonna be tough. Ill have to keep the Cadillac, Ive tried to sell it a couple of times, got super lowballed for what I have in it. Probably be someone's barn find someday haha.Keeping the 65 Corvair, promised my honey we would be driving it when we turn 60.

In the end before I retire in 3 to 5 years I want to have one truck, my Corvair and the Cadillac (unless someone buys it). Every thing else that I would have managed to squeeze in to my reduced space will be gone.

Have you made the plans yet for all of your projects and parts? Especially you older fellas like me?

Wow, that's a lot of stuff you have to find a new home for!

I don't really have any storage (at all) because at my house is a regular 2 car garage that has to house everything that can't be left outside (thanks HOA) including projects, toys, lawn mower, and garbage bins. That being the case, I have to be really efficient with my space and my truck project. If I have parts lying around that I know I won't use for a long time (possibly ever), they have to go ASAP. I also don't have the room, obviously, to store my next project, so that is located entirely in my head. I have to work under the one in/one out mentality with anything that I bring into the garage.

My home shop is 18x28 plenty long and wide enough to work on anything, but not wide enough to have anything side by side.

I hate having anything lay around outside, plus I'm sure my neighbors wouldn't like it either. So my home rule is, project in the shop only. If its a runner/driver/licensed/insured it can be at the house outside the shop.

I had many and am down to two trucks, '67 C1500 SWB and '72 K2500. The '72 is a rolling project and the '67 is in the wings. I always had many in the wings and even many on the road, but at this point in life I'm content with keeping it simple. Plus, I have many other interests to pursue. Vehicularly (< funny word) as well as other. I want to run those things all over the country, not stay home working on them all the time. I've put a lot of time into that!

I have (4) 71-72 pickups- (1) needs some paint work & a 72 K10 super that needs a full restoration (will be my last full nut & bolt project). The other (2) are running/driving. If I had too many projects, I would feel overwhelmed. I'm 51 & don't have the drive I used to have! Wish I lived closer to you so I could come to your parts reduction sale!

I have 4 short bed 67's at this house only 3 fit in the garage one sits under a tarp outside waiting , 2 in the garage and a few more in the barn waiting all 67's , a couple 67 138 Chevelle's siting under tarps waiting in the barn , I need a 40 x 60 or larger new steel building so I can have it all in one place and then I'll be happy , it's all retirement projects . I hope I'm around to finish them all and maybe a few more !

Sounds familiar. I thought it was just me.
I have a 72 El Camino I am in the finishing stages on.
Dead in the middle of a 78 S.B. C10 slammed pickup construction.
Just bought a 71 GMC C20 big block with air conditioning. Complete.
Have an 81 K20 pickup that runs and drives I keep at my mountain property (6 acres).
A 83 C20 same color as my 81 K20. Bought just because it's same color and great original paint. No motor/trans.
A 85 Suburban just for parts, (wish I never would have drug it home)
A 66 1/2 ton long bed parts truck. Sold the cab
About 5 other chassis for 67-87 trucks.
Good thing and bad thing about having remote country property. I drag crap home that I really don't need cause it's a good deal.
I will be 58 this year too and know I will never get to all of these, but hey, I like em. All except that suburban. Thought I might need the front/rear ends.

Well ... a real car/truck nut always has at least one waiting in the wings don't we ?!

I have my '71 (all in pieces) taking up one side of my garage (DD on the other side) and have my '50 GMC and '19 Buick waiting out in my shed.

If I didn't already have a couple on the 'waiting list' and nowhere to store any more or likely enough decades left before I'm too ancient to restore them all, I'd definitely be looking to add a '64-'66 or maybe a '55-'57 or ...

1. 68 GMC swb (currently working on)
2. 59 chevy short, fleet
3. 57 chevy 3800
4. 53 chevy short, Bell telephone truck
5. 46 chevy 1.5 ton (will be put on 1/2 ton frame)
I'm trying not to buy any more. Might need to get rid of a couple of these.

I have my 70 needing final touches a 70 blazer that was painted 9 years ago and never put back together then a 63 impala 2dr at least I live in ax so the body's are all in really nice shape they are only going up in value and it doesn't cost me anything to keep them so I'll keep them till I'm ready

As always, I have lots going on all the time, and the older I get the more I'm slowing down lol, but I have had this 72 Cheyenne/30 dually flatbed for 20 years. It still fires right up and drives, but rough as you can tell. It's a pretty odd truck, ordered with ps pb ac tilt tach buckets 350 4 speed, blue with black interior. It's going to get a full resto in the next few years (I hope) I already have everything to do it (rust free cab, doors, and front clip, plus lots of NOS parts)

Today I finished all my truck dealings. All I have left is my 69 (68 nose) panel, 72 K10 burb and my 68 K20 GMC. All my short box projects and parts are gone. I did hang on to my stepside fenders and steps though (I have my reasons lol). I need to take a couple of things off my parts trucks and those are gone to a buddy.

I do have a bunch of misc. parts left, but I have a place that's ok to keep them for now and Ill be going through them a little at a time and selling or trading them off. Any of the big stuff that the fella that picked up most of my stuff doesn't want will be going to the scrapper. Including the Austins, Lil Joe, and any other hunks of iron Ive forgotten about.

Keeping my 41 Caddy and my 65 Corvair. Panel is next up to get on the road. If I love it, Ill put the GMC and Burb up for sale. If not, it will go down the road. I will continue to upgrade and play with my GMC at the same time, but I need to always keep it drivable.

Still have a GMC grille to get rid of? You've been on a real reduction incentive this past month. Me too, but with misc stuff I've had for years in sheds I am obviously not going to miss.

Nothing in the wings, but lots of dreams of buying great projects and stuff.

If a deal pops up, I would probably just buy it and figure it out later where it would go.

Aging is always on my mind and the wife selling everything if I die without her knowing what it is or what it is worth! Great deals to be had if you are in the right place at the right time...

32x48 pole barn full, a few in the yard and working on my 72 c20 in the garage. I hope to have it camper ready for spring. 68 Cougar,73 eldorado conv, 63 cutlas conv, 73 vw conv, 84 el camino, 48 nash coupe, and 71 and 68 c10s.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I told my wife they need to make a show called "Automotive Hoarders" I'm pretty sure I fit the bill.


I have my red blazer (driver), my green jimmy (project), a 72 Duster (1st car project), 74 Duster (parts car), 1973 firebird (driver), 79 trans am (project) and lots of parts for all of them. This doesn't include bicycles, motorcycles, etc.

When I retire (one fine day) I'll finish what I can, sell what I can't, and leave the rest to my son to sell for scrap!

That's exactly how I ended up with vehicles stashed in 4 counties in 6 different places before I bought my house. Then, rather than round those up I got more to fill my driveway that I made double wide and extended more than twice as long. I ended up renting a barn on a farm slated for development, once it sold, which took years. I gathered so much stuff it was crazy and I loved it! Then it sold not long after my wife left and I had inherited her debts from a recent re-fi. The rules had changed and it was time to lighten up. It helped me realize I really did have too much stuff and, although it hurt at first, I came to feeling good about simplifying my life. Which seems to be where CG is at now, as far as getting to a point in life. All at once my life became about from here on out and how much time do I really have?

Great! I do think of it as a grille in the bank. I'm running low on trucks and parts trying to build up a decent stash. Just kidding. Sticking with the less excess thing. But I do have the desire to build one other, a '68 GMC flatbed for my retirement chore boy. Plus, I'm still keeping spare parts for the two keepers. I know no life without spare parts
