56 chevy rear end width?
Any one know the width on the stock rear end? I'm looking to find a used rear end or buying a new rear end that is close to the stock width. The one I have right now is to wide. I'm needing one that will tuck the wheels with out having to tub the bed 15x7 with 4.25 back space

Re: 56 chevy rear end width?
This says 62 but that seems wide. I have a 55 rear axle that I can measure tomorrow if no one chimes in.

Re: 56 chevy rear end width?
Those year Camaro rears fit pretty well and the later ones usually have disk brakes.
One thing though, don't buy new wheels for it until you have the axle installed and figure out what back spacing, width and what not are going to work out the best and still give the look you want. It's a lot easier to buy the wheels to fit the setup than change the setup to fit the wheels you have.

Re: 56 chevy rear end width?
I have an 80 Trans Am disk brake rear in my 57. My wheels are eight inch Corvette rallys which I believe have four inch back spacing and they are perfectly centered between the fender and bed. They have plenty of room and never rub. I thought it was 62 inches flange to flange.

Re: 56 chevy rear end width?
I am going to be running a 77 Camaro rear in mine. It's a 3.23 Posi unit with Drum brakes.
