Neutral safety switch replacement on 74
I am going to replace this switch on my 74 short bed and have read where some say they had to adjust it when they put it on by moving it left to right while foot is on brake and have some one at the rear of truck letting u know when brake lights come on. That way u will know that's the position it needs to be in then u tighten it up. Where as others say it's simply just a put in place and tighten it down no adjusting needed. Which is correct way? Also the one that's on there now shows the two plugs plugged into the switch with no other prongs visible but every one I see online shows 3 other prongs along with the two I need to use. Are those there for if u have other things needing to be plugged in? Thanks for any input.

Re: Neutral safety switch replacement on 74
My understanding. Safety switch has nothing to do with brakes. Only the position the shifter is in. Install. Snug down. Test. Truck does not start in park or nuetral. Adjust. Done. Tighten down

Re: Neutral safety switch replacement on 74
On my 75, the brake has nothing to do with the NSS. The instructions probably include the use of brake reference to cover liability issues if some idiot ran over the assistant.
I looked at mine and it has 2 purple wires and 2 green wires in 2 separate plugs. |

Thanks for the quick response parrot and chris. Yeah mine has the same two wires going to two plugs only as well.

Re: Neutral safety switch replacement on 74
Well got the problem solved. It was a combination of replacing the neutral safety switch which has part of the plastic broke on it and a loose corroded wire on the starter that was not making good contact. Fires right up now every time!
