Torque Thrust 2, 18 or 20's

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger this winter on new wheels. I cant decide if I should go with 18's or 20's. I don't want the wheels to look to big on the truck. Does anyone have pictures of there truck on TT2 18's?

Thanks.

Re: Torque Thrust 2, 18 or 20's

There are quite a few threads already on TT2s with good examples of what you are looking for. This thread has a good example of a truck running 18/20 TT2 to give you a good comparison of the two sizes, and this thread just has a bunch of examples of trucks on torque thrusts in a range of sizes. But to answer your question, here's a nice photo of beaterku's truck on 18x9, 5" bs, and 265/50r18s. It depends on what stance you have, but I do think anything up to 20" looks proportionately normal on these trucks. Once you get to 22" and up they start to look big.

Re: Torque Thrust 2, 18 or 20's

18's. I think anything up to 18 looks good with enough sidewall. 20's are just too much IMO.

I have 17's on my truck and would probably go 18's if I had to do it again just for tire assortment and availability.

Re: Torque Thrust 2, 18 or 20's

These are 17" on a 4/6 drop. If I were to do it again, I might go 18s. I am bagging so I am going with 20" Salt Flats. I think static dropped fleetsides can pull off 20s much better than static dropped stepsides.

Re: Torque Thrust 2, 18 or 20's

Our trucks have huge wheel wells , larger than stock looks good on them . I like big rims , and decent to big tires [hate rubber band tires ]

Re: Torque Thrust 2, 18 or 20's

You fill in fender wells with tires, an old school wheel design looks best when the diameter is kept only a little larger than normal (if you must go larger at all)

Not sure I entirely agree... The lower you go, the bigger you can go IMO. Bennett68C10's awesome truck in progress. \/

Re: Torque Thrust 2, 18 or 20's

Consider your tire width as well...if you like em wide go with 18s. I think i will roll 18s when the time is right. You get a good look but the performance and ride quality are much better with a little meaty side wall.....also large wheels are very heavy and hard on front end parts and all.

Re: Torque Thrust 2, 18 or 20's

Thanks for the info. The truck is on bags right now, so that should help if I go with bigger rims. No matter if I decide 18 or 20's, I want the same size on all four corners so I can rotate.

Re: Torque Thrust 2, 18 or 20's

As others have said, it all depends on your taste and how you intend to use your truck. For myself, I wanted to be able to use my truck as a truck, be able to rotate, not have a harsh ride and still look cool. I searched this site and others for the right look. As soon as I ran across beaterku's truck, I knew that was the look I was going for. I purchased the exact same wheel and tire package for mine and love it. Still need to install a 2/4 drop but I will get to that pretty soon.
I also agree with the idea that larger wheels require a lower ride height.
18=2/4
20=5/7
22=5/7 or lower
Ultimately it has to be what looks great to you.

Re: Torque Thrust 2, 18 or 20's

Normally I agree on keeping tires equal size for rotation, but no doubt about it that the appearance is improved with bigger tires in the back. And performance is improved with a narrower tire in front IMO.

Thanks for the shout out brother

I'm a 20" or larger wheel guy but I also like my trucks lowered/bagged so it looks proportioned. 18's look really good too with a nice size tire.

I would go with 20s, there are more sizes available than 18s and they are usually less expensive.

Re: Torque Thrust 2, 18 or 20's

Just got these 18x8 and 18x9.5 on my 71. Along with new RideTech control arms. Front ride height needs to come up some more and the rear needs to come down a little more.

Re: Torque Thrust 2, 18 or 20's

I saw my name come up a few times in this thread so I thought I'd put up a more current pictures I've actually been kicking around the idea of switching up my wheels. I am liking the looks of the US Mag Rambler in 18x9.5 all around. I'm going to wait to see what it looks like with this Ridetech steetgrip kit and check for clearances.
