Alignment help/specs
Should the stock specs for the truck(1961) be used? If not,what specs should you shoot for? Is there an affordable kit that can be purchased for home alignment or is it a job better left to a shop? The reason i ask is the last shop I took it to flipped my centerlink backwards and the results weren't satisfactory. Truck is a 61 with 2 1/2 drop spindles and torsion bars set at stock height. Stock springs in back . Running 15" 50 series tires back and 15" 60 series up front.Any help appreciated, thanks,Bo

The thread "make it handle" is worth reading at least 3 times to learn all the info needed. To sum it up, if running narrow old school type tires run factory specs because that's what was needed back then. If you are running a wider radial tire follow the thread's direction to lean the top of the tire in (negative camber) and as much positive caster as possible by shifting /removing shims from the upper control arm to frame area. These 2 changes are basically getting your upper ball joint to move inward and to the rear as much possible. You will probably end up 2.5-3 degrees positive caster and maybe .5-1.0 negative camber.
I ran the stock specs with wide radials and it was ok, but when i followed the "make it handle" specs as mentioned above what a difference it made. I'm running 2 1/2" drop spindles, stock springs, 18" wheels, variable ratio firm feel 3.5 lock to lock steering box (i put it together) and no regrets, but will shoot for more positive caster in the future. |
