transmission woes

Was driving home today, going up a small hill and I heard a loud bang and then it would barely move (I was able to get it off the road into a parking lot). Any ideas? Torque converter? If so, I wonder what I'm looking at to get it fixed?

Re: transmission woes

Which transmission? Does the truck barely move in all the gears? Any noises after the initial bang?

I once had a 700R4 that did that. That was the end of it.

Re: transmission woes

Whatever it is it can be good. I was driving my dads truck in high school and the transmission went out. Something similar to what you describe happened and it was the end of that one as well.

TH350 (I think, it came with the 305 and the previous owner put a 350 crate motor in it). It does move, barely, in both reverse and drive.

edited to add there was no more noise after the initial bang.

Re: transmission woes

Sounds like it's time to get an assessment at a trans shop.

It's there now. Hopefully it won't be too tragic.
