Carrier bearing mounting bolts, cotter pin bolts?
Just curious if the carrier bearing mounting bolts are supposed to be cotter pin bolts. I don't see a good reason for cotter pin bolts.
As I found them, there was a bolt and washer below, and a lock washer and nut on top. There were no cotter pins, though one bolt had what was left of one. Thank you

Fine thread too, right? They always have those but I have never seen cotter pins in the holes...

Welcome back, Kotter! Couldn't help myself. Nope, no Cotter pins required in that application. Looks like someone went in and did a little dirty work at some point.

Those are the right bolts and nuts. I guess maybe they had voter pin sin them from the factory, I just don't ever remember seeing them.
I lost one of those oddball nuts a couple weeks ago...I know the direction it went so I guess it will turn up. |

I imagine you're like me "I got to find that nut". I was thinking the bolt head was irregular, but I see you're right, it's the nut.

That is correct for that size. I have the same bolts on my C30 carrier bearing

Re: Carrier bearing mounting bolts, cotter pin bolts?
I dont think a cotter pin would be as effective as a lock washer in that application. I have had several of these trucks and never observed a hole in the bolt for a cotter pin used in that location. so dont read too much or over analyse the hole deal.
