Number 8 piston was the one giving me trouble. But I found that the top ring gland on #3 had some damage from pre detonation or heat and the top ring was broken in three places. The engine has always had a weird noise on the rotating assembly. Maybe this was it

Not yet but getting close. Gonna drop the tranny first slide it out then work on removing the block. I do not have an engine hoist so it'll have to come out the bottom.

So I set it in there and now it's a matter of figuring out the engine placement fore and aft so that I can drill the holes for the motor mounts. TO BE CONTINUED
