I,m tring to replace my cab corners I bought a pair of Counterpart corners and as you can see from the pictures there not a quality part. First they don,t have the same body line on the bottom, the corner radius is different, there is not a lip below the lower spot weld flange, the door spot weld flange tapers.
Over all it,s a piece of S---

Re: Is there a cab corner that fits

That Counterpart corner is crap!

Take it back and get Keyparts (TriPlus).

I will be exchanging the passanger's side for a Tri-Plus brand.

The off brand is just way too cheaply made. The metal is terribly obviously thinner.
The shape of the body lines are very under shaped.

The TriPlus is far superior.

Also,

You may already know this, but...

A tip mentioned in these forums is to only cut out what you need to replace.
In other words; don't cut your truck to fit the patch panel, but cut the patch panel to fit the bad portion that needs replacing on your truck.

Where did you purchase those cab corners LostMy65?

I believe MBGMike was selling USA made cab corners not long ago. I don't know if he still has any though.

Re: Is there a cab corner that fits

Classic parts is only selling the new ones that fit perfect . I had got a left side first but had not installed it and it did not fit very good at all. Then i got the right side and it was if it was an OEM one (Perfect in every detail) but repop. They said send the left side back and they would send me the new type left side one. I got it and it also fit perfect and had all the factory lips and bends.

I bought my cab corners from a local guy that a lot of us here in the Portland area go to - Dan's Classic Auto. I have since exchanged the cheesy one for another TriPlus.

Re: Is there a cab corner that fits

Too bad photo bucket is dumping our pics. The photos I posted above really emphasized the difference in quality.

Re: Is there a cab corner that fits

ALL reproduction sheet metal requires some fabrication. Blame the Chinese, their quality control sucks. 99% of all reproduction parts for trucks and cars is imported. An American made cab corner, if there were such a thing, would probably cost $500.00 a piece, not 20 bucks. As a former employee of the largest classic car/truck parts supplier, I've been to the factories on multiple occasions in China, there is only two of them. They tend to use stamping dies past their prime, after they should have been replaced. Which causes some of the fluctuations in quality. Some parts suppliers are better at culling out inferior parts, some aren't. It's a crap shoot.

Re: Is there a cab corner that fits

There was a definite difference in shape of the contours between the triplus and counterpart brand. The gauge of steel was also easily evident. I'll see if I can find those pics again and repost them.
All reproduction body pieces or patch panels won't fit as well as original pieces, but there is inferior brands of patch panels.

Re: Is there a cab corner that fits

There isn't any different "brands" , only different importers. If you read the UPC code, you'll see they all come from the same place, same country.

The cheap pieces are poorly stamped and waaay lighter than stock metal. The point is that LMC doesn't manufacture, they are a re-seller. There are only a handful of manufacturers, maybe as few as 3 or 4 factories? I don't know the top of the supply chain but stick with a vendor who is dilligent about making sure you get the best. GMC Paul's comes to mind...or any of our board vendors should be able to answer your the simple question of who manufactures their parts and what gauge they are. If they can't, call the next guy. Internet ordering makes things simple, but picking up the phone is still important sometimes.
