DIY step notch
Howdy!
Has anyone seen/made plans for a DIY step notch? I wouldn't worry if our frames were straight, but the darn zig-zag makes me a little cautious. This would be for a '64. I don't want a C-notch as I will, eventually, be towing with my truck. Thanks! |

Re: DIY step notch
I'm putting bags on my '64 and the c-notch weakens the frame quite a bit.

Re: DIY step notch
And their frames are weaker vs the full step notch.

Re: DIY step notch
I'm also planning on towing with mine so I used 2x4 .120w and added both inner and outer plates that tie to the factory frame.
The last few pages of this thread shows it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=589967 |

Dang! Those are some crazy good fabrication skills in that build!
If I was looking correctly, you did not shape your notch to the curve of the frame. |

Re: DIY step notch
You are correct. The bend in the frame was in front of and behind the step. I split the difference with the new frame pieces(as far as angle). The full length boxing plate took finesse to follow the contour.
