Off The Hook Pricing For 69 Tow Hooks

Is it just me or have the prices for these tow hooks gotten a little off the hook?!

At least they offer financing,
Only $37 a month for two years.

Asking price vs actual sale price. But yes prices have went up.

Imagine what I thought when I found out what the "extreme bend" tow hooks that came with my 72 were worth.

Re: Off The Hook Pricing For 69 Tow Hooks

I, for one, do not subscribe to the theory that something's worth is based on what someone is willing to pay for it. (and that by posting this, hope prices will drop a tad so I can feel better about paying only $700 for a set someday )

Re: Off The Hook Pricing For 69 Tow Hooks

It was several years ago when I first started the restore on my truck, I was at a swap meet and stopped at a booth that had a few 67-72 truck parts scattered around. Had learned of the optional tow hooks for these trucks thru this site. Just for the *ell of it, I asked if he had any tow hooks for these trucks. Yeah, think there's a set under the table there. Lo and behold, there they were, just laying there with some other parts. Picked them up and looked them over. Good shape, no bolts but no gouges or dings. How much? $20 sound good to you was the reply. 'Bout threw my arm out of place reaching for my wallet, LOL. One of the best buys I ever made at a swap meet. Have never found another set for that price since.

Guess if not for that, my truck wouldn't have the tow hooks mounted to it today. I have never used them but they sure look good mounted.

Re: Off The Hook Pricing For 69 Tow Hooks

Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but I can't imagine installing $800 set of hooks on the front of my truck. Four bolts and they are gone! I sold my 67 CST horn button for the exact same reason. I leave my windows down a lot and I couldn't leave a couple hundred dollars in a horn button there for someone to reach in and pull off.

Might be worth running a lead off the battery to those bolts. Hmmm...

If you want, I can hook you up with a guy who can make an oscillator circuit that runs off the battery (draws little power until the circuit is complete). You connect one side of the circuit to the truck, the other to the foil on the ground (you do have to put down some aluminum foil). Once his nuts are arc-welded together, he'll wander off into the night, and MIGHT remember where he got zorched. Guaranteed non-lethal.

Re: Off The Hook Pricing For 69 Tow Hooks

I have original bolts, washers, and nuts I'd sell for $250

A chain isn't worth anything without a good place to hook it up, but a pair of hooks isn't worth anything without a chain. I have a 30' 3/8" chain from back then I figure must be worth $1,000

I laughed when I read that, but then stopped and thought - that's actually a dam good idea!

While these are way out of my price range, I have seen them for more. I can't for the life of me figure out why.

I remember way back when board member Jerry Moss would pay $100.00 for tow hooks. And that sounded like a lot

Someone pulled the trigger at $775 - Wow, that is off the hook!

Those other ones at $699 are looking pretty good now...

AND the shipping was $45. Guess they wouldn't fit in a Priority flat rate for $12

Re: Off The Hook Pricing For 69 Tow Hooks

I thought the 69-71's were one style and the 72's were another. And the 72's were rare and justified a high price.

but like all things ebay the description is vague, seemingly on purpose so that somebody will pay 72 prices for the more common 69-71's

doesn't matter since they are so completely out of my price range. hope they get a good rating . they certainly paid for it.
