taller "drop springs" ?
I bought a set of POL, 2" drop springs for the rear of my 68 swb truck. After installation the rear of the truck was about 1/2" TALLER! (measured to the top of the wheel well)
My stock springs measured 12 1/4 inches The new "drop springs" measured 12 5/8 I thought this was weird, but figured they would probably squish down, they didn't. Manufacturer said "Your old springs must have sagged" According to this PDF: https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf The stock height from my tailgate to the ground was 27 1/4" With the new springs, it measures 28 3/4" We're going the wrong direction. Re: taller "drop springs" ?
New drop springs, compare their advertised drop compared to NEW STOCK springs.
Your truck's original springs probably had that much sag due to age and wear. That's why I always recommend finding a dropped truck you like, and finding out what components they used. There is a static drop thread in almost every forum on here. Tailgate to ground measurements mean nothing. Too many different tire sizes to compare apples to apples.

Re: taller "drop springs" ?
I think I figured it out. I added some weight to the bed, 'till I got it down where I wanted it.
How much weight? Roughly as much as a blazer style gas tank full of gas would weigh. I guess it's time to install that gas tank that's been in the shed for the last 2 years. The most subtle drop ever Last edited by Greasey Harley; 10-06-2017 at 11:26 PM. |
