Anybody use this type of scanner?
I'm trying to find a simple tool to help me verify my coolant temperature. Has anyone used something like this before? Thanks!

Re: Anybody use this type of scanner?
I bought this one and use an app on my phone. I get every ounce of information the computer puts out. Timing, fuel trim levels, rpms, temp, speed and everything else you can think of.

Perhaps I should have mentioned I'm trying to get something on the cheap, lol!

http://www.scantool.net/scan-tools/p...5-compact.html You can see it running in one of my first start vids: It works, I'm sure I haven't found all of its capabilities, but I don't play with it much besides reading codes and making sure my gauges are accurate. Maybe consider this thing, you could leave it in the truck all the time and no lap top required: http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/index.htm |

Re: Anybody use this type of scanner?
I'd be concerned with all that awesome "freeware and trial software" they include lol. Not sure if it works, but it seems cheap enough. I've seen PLX and a couple other phone interfaces that seem cool too, but many of that have really limited (read, cheesy) features.
IMO for the money, I got a ScangaugeII which lets me monitor that kind of stuff, and I used it as an active gauge in the car as well.

Re: Anybody use this type of scanner?
After thinking about it some more and thinking long term, I think I'll give the ultra gauge a try. Thanks all!

Re: Anybody use this type of scanner?
I know this thread is old, but did you ever get these gauges? i'm considering them until its time to dish out $800 for Dakota Digital ones. I really want to monitor Trans Temp.
