Re: My 70 is really a 69
Since the models for the next year are introduced sometime near july, 11/1969 is a 1970 model year..
The 2018's are out already and its 2017..

Re: My 70 is really a 69
The 5th digit of the VIN states the model year. Build date does not matter, if the 5th digit is a "0" the truck is a '70.
a general rule of thumb, a new model year starts production in September. So 9/69 or later would be a 70. this is not set in stone, I've seen earlier build dates also. My '70 was built 11/69. |

Yep, new model year introductions vary but are typically in the showrooms by September. My '72 was built in August 1971.

Re: My 70 is really a 69
State DOT regulations also influence which year the vehicle "is"
In some states the year the vehicle was first resgistered is the date of that vehicle. It caused alot of problems and a few surprises. sometimes it was used to manipulate the value of a vehicle. It caused problems if a vehicles was sold out of state or imported from a foreign country. I think, that by the early 80's most state DOT regs fell into line. Commercial vehicles esspecially larger trucks remain a bit of a grey area if they went to another manufacturer for specialty body work before going to a dealership or directly to the end user/customer. State and federal vehicle emission regulations also compelled states to become more uniform in designating or assigning a year of manufacture. |

Re: My 70 is really a 69
An understandable confusion - but not at all like saying dual wheels are modern replacements when, really , they are the old OEM locking ring type.
