Blue beard, you are correct, there is a lot of history behind this car that starts in california. Any one out there know of "drag-on lady"? Car hasn't changed much since early 80s. If any one has hot rod magazines from early 80s, there was a 2 page write up on this car in it.
69ride, the wheelie bars are legal but you get watched pretty close!!
Will also clarify this is not my car but a good friends. Will get more pics next time i'm over.

This Car looks very much like the one Shirley Shahan(AKA drag-on-lady) raced. Very good racer, quick on the tree....I believe her Hornet was silver. Lots of AMC racers back then, AMC dominated Prostock for a couple years in the 70's. People like Wally Booth and Maskins & Kanners in ProStock + Ray Whinery in Super Stock(SS/C, which ran with the Hemis in SS/A). I saw him run a 10.01 when SS/A record was 10.08. Maskins now owns Dart heads. Is the Hornet still AMC powered?
At the time, AMC heads outflowed the Chevies, Mopars and Fords. Brings back great memories.

I believe drag-on-ladys shop did alot of the work on this car originally, and yes it is amc powered with wally booth heads on it.

i used to have a nice little 63 nova two door hardtop, 6cyl with 3 on the tree. one day i was at the f*ord dealership my father worked at at the time and there was an older fella in there (ugh just got to thinking he was probably in his mid forties, my age now) anyway he was picking up his sons very sweet 69 amx, 390 auto. i was drooling over the car telling the guy how cool i thought it was. he was *****ing about how his son was constantly getting into trouble with it speeding etc. i said he needs a car like mine with a 6 cyl. not meaning anything by it. the guy said how bout if i trade you straight up for the amx? my dad wasnt happy but i was 18 and took that deal. boy did i get into alot of trouble in that car :p.

Are you looking to sell the car? If you go to 4secondsflat.com they have a for sale section. There is a guy there with the handle autoxamx that collects amc,s.

speaking of amx's, here is their other cars. By the way, the hornet has a 360 t/a block with a 390 crank = 395.4 cubes. Original name of car was "mind-changer"(before re-paint) Driven by don carlisle.
