Carb issues, fuel injection swap or full LS?

Well Edelbrock carbs come really rich right out of the box. However like clyde65 said what kind of fuel pump do you have?

Could very well be the float level is off, way off.. easy to set

That tells you it's flooding. Likely from too much fuel pressure. THe only time you should see excess fuel is when the accelerator pump shoots some into the venturi.
You need a reg set at a max of 5 psi.
These ones rated up to 4 psi will work too.
