69 c20 lowering help.

I'm starting my front disc upgrade and lowering project soon on my 69 c20. Have some questions. I'm using a kit with a 2.5 inch drop spindle and going with a 1 inch drop spring. Can I keep the stock height shocks in front with that setup or do I need drop shocks? For the rear I'm going with a 5 inch drop spring. I know I need to relocate the shock mounts but as far as drop springs I read somewhere on here that I can use the same ones used on front side as drop shocks in the back. Is this true? Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: 69 c20 lowering help.

1" suspension drop in the front can use stock shocks no problem. I'm still using my stock rear shocks on my 6" drop, I flipped the stock lower shock mounts.

Re: 69 c20 lowering help.

Good timing for me! I just logged in to ask similar Q's. I have a 69 C20 I want to do disc drop to as well. Which kit are you using? Are you staying w/8 lug?

Has anyone used POL C20 kit? https://www.performanceonline.com/63...-deluxe-8-lug/

Any better options out there? Anyone have photos of their completed drop so I can see how low to go?

That's the kit I will be using from POL. Keeping it 8 lug. Will pick it up Wednesday. Saves me 130 for shipping. If you get it let them know before you go because they have to build the kit. I also found this thread that seems to answer the drop shock question.

Re: 69 c20 lowering help.

Would sure like to see photos of 67-72 C20 lowered with front drop coils & drop spindles and rear drop coils noting how many inches drop for front vs rear coil. I understand if I go past 4" rear drop I have to adjust shock mounts and panhard.

Jose, I used POL 2.5 drop spindles and have major rubbing now. May I ask what tire size you are using? I've got 245/75 16's right now. My tire guy is talking different wheels with more positive offset and going down to 225's or 215's but I'm concerned it will lose the near fender tucked look that I have now.

I used 225/75 16. Here's what it looks like now.

Re: 69 c20 lowering help.

Nice!!!

Looks like your steel wheels have more positive offset.

Re: 69 c20 lowering help.

Here's how my 69 C20 came out with same POL kit. I had already replaced the stock split rims with craigslist steelies and 265/70 tires and decided to leave them until they wear out. I have occasional rubbing in front when I go over a bump/dip too fast while turning but otherwise ok. Don't remember where (maybe CPP) but I recently saw drop spindles that are engineered to bring things in a bit but don't know where or if they are compatible with POL kit. Hope this helps.

Re: 69 c20 lowering help.

My body mounts are old and crushed down. I'm replacing those first to see how things go. Once that's done I've got to determine if I need different wheels and/or see if the body is still sitting crooked on the frame.

By the way, looks good!

Re: 69 c20 lowering help.

Thanks. Be sure to check/replace the rear axle bump stops. They're going to get some use once you lower the rear.
