Two questions about automatic column shifter..

1) When trying to put it into park, the shifter just won't go. It goes into every other gear easily, but park is a no-go unless you really put some force into it. If I push on the left side of the part of the column that turns with the shifter, it goes into park just fine. I oiled it up, made no difference. There's no problem at the tranny, all gears are fine down there - so I assume it is a column problem. Is there some kind of adjustment I can make?

2) Does anyone make replacement knobs for these things? Mine broke off, and I miss it..

Thanks..

The shifter tube needs to slide up and down inside the column so that the detent at the lower end will clear. It is real common for the shifter tubes to get sticky and not pull back so as to get it into park. I would try spraying the lower mechanism with a light oil or penetrant and then lubing with a light grease. At the shift lever spray a penentrant into the hole where the shifter lever goes into the bezel and work the lever as you spray. Usually you can hit the slide area that needs lubing.

If the shift tube is not sticking and you still have a problem, you may have some serious wear issues.

Lever knobs are available for you lever, try some of the vendors that are into these trucks, (GMC Pauls, Chevy Duty, LMC, ...)

Good luck!

Jim

Instead of a knob, just find a lever you like and swap it out.

Whoa! I thought I was the only one. My shifter sticks only when it is coldout. And I mean Canadian Cold. This problem I believe can de cured by Continuous driving, Never park your pride and joy! Seriously, will the column have to be removed for the repair?
