Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
Straight dumps on a 2wd creates a really tight turn for the head pipe. Some on this forum have done it though.

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
I've been looking at these:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/130926210500 But I'm going to do headers. It would be nice if we could do center dumps. Speedway makes a line of center dump style headers.

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
I bought a set of the center dump with 2 1/2" outlet by Dorman for my 4x4 but haven't installed them yet.

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
I deliberated this choice for a long time...header vs manifolds...straight dump vs angled dump. Finally, I just decided to try it and ordered Dorman 2.5" straight dumps on my 1972 GMC 2wd LWB 350/350. My small town exhaust guy did a beautiful job and I couldn't be happier. No noticeable change in performance compared to the long tubes that were on it. No leaks and no pipe ring tone to the exhaust. My reading seemed to indicate it all depends on the ability of the installer. I was very fortunate.

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
I'm using the chrome ones from summit on my 72 K10. The center dump works great on the 4wd.

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
I bought the center dump ones from Summit and my local shop said they won't work on my 2 WD. (I'll sell 'em cheap!) I went with aftermarket ones that the dump curves back. The only difference is appearance.

X2 Except my muffler shop is me, and I fabbed together my exhaust, it works great! Check this place out, if you know how to weld an exhaust system on one of our trucks is very easy to weld up. http://www.gbemandrel.com/ Last edited by toolboxchev; 10-23-2017 at 02:03 PM. |

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
This is actually good timing for me as I'm pretty sure my original DS manifold has developed a crack.

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
Wow, so apparently those manifolds in the ebay ad match the dorman PN's on summits site, for LESS THAN HALF of summits price??? Can anyone confirm you actually get the dorman manifolds in their pic and not a knock off? The auction isn't clear...

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
I used stock center dump rams horn manifolds on my 2WD.
I think outlet pipe is smaller than exhaust pipe. It increases in size after it turns to the rear. It is tight, but nothing hits, and you can get to the bolts with a little work. Last edited by Zeroman; 10-23-2017 at 04:32 PM. |

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
I have stock ram horns. Dumb question but why do people like the ram horn setup??? I was going to go the header route but if they flow good then I will keep. Whats the thought here???
Thank you |

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
1. They flow well
2. They allow the exhaust to tuck up tight 3. They are the correct manifold (if that matters) 4. None of the issues that some headers have 5. factory brackets bolt up 6. Fewer interference problems on custom applications |

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
I'm pretty sure my DS manifold has cracked somewhere. I bought the ebay set because they're so cheap ($82) and appear to be the same dorman part that summit sells for +/-$90each.
I will let everyone know how they fit. I believe the ones on ebay are the factory style, they're center dump, but angled back. That's what is on my truck now, and I'm pretty sure I got them off of an original 67 with a 327 back in the day. I even took the correct spark plug heat shields off of it... I think... been a LOOONG time.

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
I bought the aftermarket , large diameter style to use instead of headers. I'm running a Muncie 4 speed and had interference issues on the left bank. I had to go back to the smaller factory ram horns. Id sell mine also.

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
X2 and add that some people thought I was running headers from the sound the ram horns make.

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
My 68 Stepside has an aftermarket ramshorn by Dorman on the passenger side. I do not remember any issues when it was installed for the dual exhaust.

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
The 2 1/2 inch outlet is a corvette manifold. I have several sets. Good heavy castings. I polished 1 set and they turned out nice. I use tight radius mandrel bends comming out of the manifolds then muffler shop after that.

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
I had to try to work on my house and truck this weekend and the house won out (replaced a couple exterior doors) but I did manage to get my old manifolds off and one side back on. The fit was pretty dang good.
And yes, the ebay ones appear to be the dorman ones, but literally half the price of anyone else. If you're thinking about buying them (they're the factory style ones with angle back) I would pick up a set. They do need a little grinder work to look a little better and they do have 4 stupid looking plugs (visible in pics) but otherwise look decent.

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
the vette manifolds need the generator mount cut off, buy direct from dorman. last set I bought was about 170.00 there for the 327/365 hp engine

Re: Rams horn manifolds-aftermarket
This is the same set I used, they work great but the exhaust pipes will be custom and the right side is very tight. I moved the motor a little to add clearance and made the pipes by making wire templates and had the 2.5" pipes bent then I cut and welded them to fit from there. It was a job but I wanted the stock look with the performance improvement.
