Danbury Mint Is Back?
Am I wrong, or didn't both Danbury Mint and Franklin Mint close doors several years ago? I am pretty darn sure it was both. I was selling some of my non-GM Truck Danbury stuff at Carlisle in '09 and that's what collectors were telling me.
Anyway, just today I get a familiar envelope like I used to get some 20 years ago. An offer to purchase a model on payments, just send the card in. By what it said on the envelope I knew it was a 67-72 Chevy Truck and expected it to be a 50th anniversary or their own rendering of what a 100th anniversary '68 would look like. Nope. t's a Hugger Orange '69 SWB BBC CST in 1/18 scale. Do others here know about this? If not, here is your heads up!

Re: Danbury Mint Is Back?
Now that I looked at the brochure a little more, and getting some memory back, maybe Danbury never went anywhere, but they stopped making diecast vehicles. I seem to remember it was an issue between them and the people making them over in you know where. I believe they wanted a big increase in cost that Danbury couldn't deal with. The brochure says "Produced exclusively For The Danbury Mint". Down in the corner are GM and Acme Trading Company logos. Tells about the GM logo and related body designs are GM trademarks used under license by Acme.
Anyway, look for it, the 1069 Chevrolet CST/10 in 1/18. Hugger Orange with white top, narrow whitewalls, wheelcovers. Really nice looking.

Re: Danbury Mint Is Back?
I wondered if there was a connection to HWY61 replicas. Danbury always did the traditional 1/25 scale and this is the later 1/16 scale. I never cared for or saw the need to go bigger than 1/25 and have stayed away from the 1/18. They take up more room for one thing, but also out of scale for dioramas. The smaller and more detailed the better is how I feel about models. Go bigger and there's no excuse for inaccuracy. Go smaller and it matters less...as well as being more complicated to do. That said, I do have just one 1/18 scale '72 and it is the Eagle on Ochre just because I want a full rounded 67-72 collection and that s my 1/18 HWY61 representation.
I'm undecided on this one, four payments of $39.95, so $160. It is a sort of hallmark piece being the first one back for Danbury with this new arrangement...or have there been others I don't know about? It is a fine model in the color and configuration they went with. I'm real critical of bigger scale and there's plenty to pick on with this one. It's not a toy, it's a $160 adult replica. AMT 1/25 model kits were more precise than this. It's very nice, don't gt me wrong.

Re: Danbury Mint Is Back?
Yes they are Highway 61 tooling and that Orange/White 69 is I'm pretty sure exclusive to them and if it sells well I'm sure we will see more in the future. I looked at the brochure and the front end seems a little funky to me.
