Double D audio
gents
about to drive home my "new" 72 blazer 4x4. has the olde stereo head, which i aim to replace. theres no vent or anything above, so room for a double din. want the sat nav and bluetooth stuff, touchscreen, trying to resist the back up camera. Pioneer seems the way to go. anybody had experience installing a DD in this stock dash? is it possible to cut the metal for a din size, and have the big screen stick out and up??? many thanks |

Re: Double D audio
I'm installing single din with double din screen by Pioneer. I have one in my Dodge and it work good has back up camera. it is similar to the Pioneer AVH-X7800BT.

Re: Double D audio
thanks for that. looking at the 72 blazer dash panel, will likely require lowering the unit into where the ashtray is, to allow for room below the top panel overhanging top of dashboard. this may require a full Double Din cut out, to remove all of where the old radio was installed.
anyone who's done so with a 72 blazer, love to hear your decisions. cheers, Mmo |

Re: Double D audio
At the moment, that's my plan. Remove the ashtray and extend the recess area downward to make a double din fit.
In another thread, a professional, said it was a stupid idea as all that functionality can be had in a phone so why tear up the dash panel. I don't have a cell phone so I guess I don't know what I am missing.

Re: Double D audio
thanks. I've a big iPhone 6 plus, but still want the features of a doub din. having a nav screen, night vision back up camera (and possibly forward) for reversing out of late night trail rides, hands free and a touch screen is a good thing.
i sill hope to make minor cuts with a single din, double screen; but as mentioned may not fit under overhanging dash pad. lemme know what you go for, pictures would be great. ill do the same once i actually get my hands on this 72 rig. cheers Mark |
