Question AC/Heater diverter box repairable?

Has anyone been able to repair the flap inside the AC/Heater diverter box? This is the box inside the truck under the glove box. There is a door in the box that opens or shuts depending on whether you slide the control lever to AC or over to Heater. I have to replace the box on my Sub for the second time because the rod is spinning inside the flap and will not control it. This is not a cheap part (about $70-100)!

Check out these two sites:

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com
http://www.partsoneonline.com

bought one from them new, seems like it was under $50 with ship. about 2 years ago.

Their sites won't show the parts back that far....but use the part number on the flapper and they will check....

Call them, you'll get better results...

There are some postings on repairs, might try a search on the topic...

Yeah, I'm not really looking for another one, drink2mny. I was more trying to get an idea if they are repairable since this will be the 2nd time I've replaced the box for the same reason.

I pop riveted a piece of tin on the plastic "flapper". I then spot welded the tin flap to the metal rod that the plastic flapper is supposed to be attached to. Of course you have to cut away some rubber where you make your spot welds.

I have repaired one using 2 part Epoxy Glue. I first glued another piece of plastic on to the flap to make it stronger. Then Glued it all to the shaft....let set a few days... Its held up to over 14 yrs.

Good Luck

have couple needing repair

I have 2 of these that are breaking but not real bad. Both great candidates for repair jobs. I've seen sheetmetal fix and it worked well. Before I found these in my parts boxes I bought new GM one. Pieces didn't seal together well and they had splashed glue all over front of box, for that price I was hoping for better qaulity control.

Will sell the 2 needing reapirs for $15/each plus shipping.
