2005 Chevy 5.3 Wont Crank
I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado that my boyfriend purchased in NY. We live in FL so almost a year after purchase the brakes blew and we had to have them fixed. Well the were replaced (it took almost a year) and now it wont start. We've replaced the battery and the crank angle sensor. I bought an oxgord ms300 too but when I plugged it in it didnt give any codes. "DTC 0." At this point I assume the computer is still working? Any advice?

Re: 2005 Chevy 5.3 Wont Crank
My guess would be the injectors are clogged being there was nothing wrong when parked . Ls injectors are subject to this . I here it a lot from the swap people who leave there motor in the corner for a while before they install it . Ethanol fuel plays havoc on fuel systems .
If you can get the fuel out of the tank I would . If you can not get the fuel out add some star tron fuel conditioner and add some 93 fuel ( old gas looses it octane ) . Also if you can here the fuel pump running for a few seconds when keyed on you are good . Next I would remove the injectors and clean them . There is several home made injector cleaner devices on u tube . I made one my self to clean injectors on engines that have sit for a while . Also this problem will not set any codes . |

Re: 2005 Chevy 5.3 Wont Crank
It would still crank if there was an injector problem.
Check for power at the "S" terminal(the small one) at the starter while turning the key to start. If you have power, you have a bad starter. If you don't have power at the S terminal, you could have a bad neutral safety switch, ignition switch, or wiring problem(rodents like to chew on wires when cars sit) |

Definitely, more information needed is it cranking or not cranking, does it sputter like it's getting fuel but just won't fire off?

No crank = engine does not go round and round when you turn the key
Its right there in the title. |

Re: 2005 Chevy 5.3 Wont Crank
OK so more information. It cranks at a normal pace and sounds normal but I have no spark, that's why we changed the crankshaft sensor. We hit it with starter fluid and still got nothing so I've narrowed it to no spark but not sure why I'm not getting any. Mechanic that was working on it said its not bad sparkplugs and that it was either the crankshaft censor (which did not fix the problem) or my computer. My friend recommended I check my ignition control module. Honestly trying to see if anyone has had similar issues and what the fix was or if there's something in line between my sparkplugs and battery that could be bad preventing them from getting spark. Thank you

Re: 2005 Chevy 5.3 Wont Crank
Ok. So you have a cranks/no start situation.
Your truck does not have an ignition control module. It's part of the pcm. Check for power and ground at the ignition coils. There is a ground on the left side of the engine(drivers side) above the oil pan gasket. It is the ground for all 8 coils. It is realitivley common for it to corrode up the wire and cause a no spark condition. |

I had a similar problem with my 2000 Silverado. Turns out it was a relay in the fuse box under the hood. Hope this helps.

Re: 2005 Chevy 5.3 Wont Crank
if it sat up for a while it could be the wires under the fuse junction box under the hood I had a 03 I did some work on and had a similar problem it acted like the vats was bad and keeping it from starting but when I removed the fuse junction box I founds some wires that were chewed up by rats or squirles
