Taking another shot on paint color - Progress

Yeah a repeat about paint & config........ Probably a repeat on a repeat x3.

Painter called today, he's inspired. Thought I lost him. He wants to know what color. I've spent 28 years pondering that, and I'm close

Anyway, this is an original build. The original config. was two tone Ochre and White (Ochre bottom and White cab top). No moldings outside the paint separator.

Either way I'm adding moldings, so it won't be quite to the SPID anyway. But I've decided on Ochre.

Only question is standard two-4 tone Ochre and White, or two-tone deluxe Ochre and White? Deluxe is the paint separated between moldings (1st image). I'm leaning toward two tone deluxe, and the painter agrees. But still undecided.

What do you guys think?

On a side, we've decided to paint under the bed with a bed liner with some sheen. Something he recommends. I THINK these were body color from factory (confirmation?), but seems it wouldn't hold up as well.

Dude has had my bed for two years. No problem there, I still have a suspension to remove. He's sprayed it with primer. He said he had it to a beautiful shine, and that's a beautiful thing. Pics. pending. Looks like we're prepping under the bed next week, and he wants the whole body. Say when man, can't wait.

On a side, the deluxe would look best with the antenna I'm adding. All else on the exterior will be original. It's a fat -ball fixed mast on a high crown bezel. Best of both worlds IMO, with a fat-ball to boot. The original parts on 67-68 Corvettes.

All input appreciated. These trucks are nice. At least one belonged to a board member.

Make that 2 for Deluxe with the owner on the fence.

While it's a classic look, deluxe seems to be what every truck has nowadays. But if it's what you like, then it doesn't matter what everyone else is doing.
But since you asked... personally, I'd go:
Solid ochre - or
Black top over ochre conventional two tone (great "almost" stock looking combo imo) - or
White top over ochre conventional two tone

Solid Ochre is stout. Very cool with belts. It's tempting, but between that and conventional two-tone, I'm at the conventional.

Definitely on the fence per the OP. Conventional two-tone is more conservative, and I can appreciate less is sometimes more.

On a side, I'm pondering this option as well. No upper belts. Another beautiful truck.

This says it all. In my opinion, if you change the paint scheme, it is no longer an original build.

That said, I probably prefer the look of the deluxe 2-tone, but.....

Long time no hear Jim. I agree, it would only be an "original" build. I must like the deluxe a hair more, otherwise this would be no-brainer. How's that for confusion

My view...
Paint and body work are probably the most expensive part of a restoration and the most costly to revert to original. A tilt column, gauges with tach, fancy wood beds, AM/FM, and even a crate engine (all where I deviated from original) are a lot less costly to reverse for the purist.

BUT, do what YOU want!!! At least you'd be using the original colors.

No turning back on color scheme. Paint dude is going to hit the bed solid Ochre anyway. He says adding white comes easy. He wants to do the deluxe anyhow. So I guess that makes for another deluxe selection. I'll choose it for him.

As for me, undecided

I should add Jim, it's not going to add up to the SPID regardless. It had big(*(^ camper mirrors and a rear step bumper. I'm running with sport. But I get it, conventional two-tone takes a giant step toward original. It's a tough call. I like em both.

Two Tone deluxe is what I would do adds custom look to it I like.

I drove my body shop crazy on paint color I kept getting samples having them paint an old door I had. Finely the owner called me said pick a paint today or pickup your truck. I thought it would be easy to pick but as I started looking at different colors I kept going with different shades and different amounts of metallic. Paint looked different from a sample when they painted the test panel.

I also upgraded to the best clear coat they had has 10 year warranty against UV and scratch resistant. The painter said it was so hard within the hour he had to color sand it right away before it fully cured be too hard to sand I know it was a DuPont product.

I voted deluxe two tone on your truck, but I am going with all dark olive and no belt trim on my 71 Cheyenne. Ochre is awesome!

If not for the upper molding, I'd say standard two-tone. But since you are adding the upper molding, I'd go with two-tone Deluxe.

Of course your opinion is the one that matters, gonna look great either way!

With the exception of the all white 70 my dad had the only other 67-72 Chevy/GMCs I remember from back in the day were the deluxe paint combos. I'm sure there were plenty of non deluxe trucks but they didn't stay in my mind over the years. The Deluxe has my vote.

I "may" have polled other venues. Deluxe takes it more than 20-1. This website represents more purists, and I get it. I like the conventional two-tone a lot, and to the SPID is even better.

But I can't get deluxe out of my head, so looking forward to it.

My other question is, what do you guys think of something more durable (black) than body color under the bed? I think it was body color from factory. Body color would look nicer IMO, and the truck will spend a lot of time in the garage, but I don't know. Tuff call.

Well....I have to say, I was very close to 50-50 on this...the solid color with the white roof looks absolutely great as well.
The good news.....you can't lose either way.

Exactly. Wouldn't go wrong solid Ochre with upper/lower belts either. A very stout look, especially with a BBC SWB.
