Getting ready for cross country trip in the spring

I have a 65 c10 with a th350 trans & 350 sbc with an msd ignition. When I bought the truck 4 years ago I had all new suspension components installed and also upgraded to power brakes with disc brakes in the front.

I'm planning on moving across the country in April and I'm looking for suggestions on what i should do to ensure that i have the best chance possible to make it 2600 miles without any mechanical issues and who better to ask than the experts here.

Currently I'm planning on installing a new larger gas tank under the bed where the spare tire fits & run new fuel lines cause I'm not a fan of having the tank in the cab with me. Also looking to have a more fuel efficient carb installed. Going to upgrade the wipers to a two speed intermittent system, put some west coast mirrors on it so I can see better while towing, add a towing hitch and put a cap on the bed so i can bring all my stuff with me. Im only planning on towing about 2k lbs in a 8x5 trailer.

The MSD is probably fine... but a factory-type HEI would be fool-proof. With a factory HEI, if it dies (it won't, but if it does), you can go to any parts store in the country and get everything for it and have it back up and running in a matter of minutes.
With an MSD, if something dies, you're kinda stuck.
Make sure you have a fan shroud, and I'd install a later clutch-type fan.
Other than that, sounds like you've got a perfect combo!

Brad54 - thanks for the advice, I'll look at switching to an HEI ignition and double check which fan I have.

Clyde65 - you're right always good to have AAA, first thing i did after getting my c10 was get it with the RV coverage & 100 mile towing.

Further question. since I'll be towing should I install a transmission cooler?

I've never towed anything before & I will be going thru mountains at various points. Planning on having some lightweight belongings in the bed under the shell, probably less than 150lbs worth, between that & an estimated 200lb tongue weight for the trailer, my 110lb mastiff plus weight of the shell I don't think that'll overload my half ton springs or strain the transmission too much - i hope.

Trans cooler would be a great idea. Also a mess of tools and some fuel hose, fan belt, fuel filters, alternator, fuel pump, antifreeze, jbweld, jack, two spare tires for truck and trailer( avoid Hwy robery prices)....
