engine recomendation please??

Hello and good day.. if you want the whole story read the latest post to the Edelbrock EFI conversion thread. But for now thanks for the input on this..

I have a 70 chevy, swb 4x4 383,4spd, edelbrock multipoint efi,

What engine and tranny would you go with??

Since I don’t do that much highway driving, do you think I should put a 400 auto in there and forget the 700r4?

Do you swear by your 383 or have you found that a well built 350 is better to have because it winds up a bit better?

Do you think I will notice much difference between a locally built engine using quality 383 kit with upgraded pistons with high quality valves with ported heads and quality springs and with a nice 268 comp cam,,, And the GM 383 vortec head motor??

It advertises 340 horses. 400 ft. pounds of torque between 2500 and 4000 rpm with 450 foot pounds at 4500 rpm. Maximum rpm 5K..

I would assume that a local build would have be basically a little clunkier version of the GM new build and have approx the same rpm range if using a 268 comp cam with a 9.1 ratio.

Is the better GM 383 worth a $1600 bill more than a local rebuild good quality 383? Or is it money pretty worthlessly spent?

Thank you for your time..
