Eaton Posi vs Eaton Detroit TruTrac
I know that this debate has been discussed time and time again. It appears that most people recommend the TruTrac over the Posi unit simply because of the Posi unit has a clutch that can potentially wear out over the years.
I haven't seen any comments as to a clutch actually wearing out and was trying to get a general idea on how long they actually last. I would imagine that the way a person drive will have a major impact on the lifespan of the clutch. I'm trying to determine which unit to put in my 67 c10 project. I plan on running a 5.3 LS with a 4l60e transmission. The gear ratio I plan on using Richmond 3.73 Ring and Pinon in the rear end. |

Re: Eaton Posi vs Eaton Detroit TruTrac
Trutrac works great as long as both tires have some traction. If one wheel is in the air or has zero traction it works like an open differential.
Clutch wear usually is caused by mismatched tire diameters or constantly turning circles under power otherwise they can work forever.

Re: Eaton Posi vs Eaton Detroit TruTrac
The clutch limited slip is also traction limited if one tire is off the ground. Either can be "activated" a little with the use of the brake pedal.
Figure 50-100,000 miles before noticeable change in performance on the clutch type. The TruTrac is very unobtrusive in use however. We are building a Jimmy for my son and I think TruTrac is on the short list unless I score a GM posi cheap somewhere.

Re: Eaton Posi vs Eaton Detroit TruTrac
I have a PowerTrax installed in my 72 and in my 69 Camaro. Love it.
