A little wider view or a little more info might help but at this point I don’t have a clue.

Re: What Is This?

Agree with Doc. From that angle it looks like a makeshift bracket.

You can see where something had been mounted to the outside of the fender, possibly an antenna. Looks like they used a plasma torch to burn the hole. 😮

Re: What Is This?

It's a magnet used to hold sockets and wrenches. When I was a mechanic back in the 80's everyone had them in their tool boxes. I still have a few. That one looks like a shorter version.

I guess if it is magnetized it should just pull off. Maybe that explains why it doesn't have any fasteners visible.....

Re: What Is This?

Still doesn't explain why the hole was cut or if this bracket is related to that.

Given the extra fuel tanks, the fact that is was a western truck with a slide in camper, I suspect a big CB antenna was mounted there. Magnet may not have been related to it.

Re: What Is This?

Looks like there's been some welding done near the side marker. There could have been some minor body work done there.

Re: What Is This?

This is crazy. I'm going to start using this! I'm always looking for a parking spot for wrenches, ratchets, screwdrivers and various other hand tools under the hood when I'm bent over and find myself suddenly in need of both hands!

This magnet is perfect for that. No doubt it was there in your truck doing just that when it was left behind and forgotten.
