Window vent rivets

What size are the rivets on the window vent of a 68 and Can I replace with screws and nuts

Not positive on the size, I used machine screws same size as drawer pull handles..cut them off to about 3/8"....

I bought the kit, comes with cheap 3" punch, its pretty worthless...if you don't have the special high $$$ rivet tool it's near impossible to get them tight.
