1946? Chevy 2 ton?
Hi folks...I'm in need of more advice..lol.. I recently purchased this beauty for 800 bucks..running and driving So, I'm told it is a 1946...I have no idea how to tell. The tag that was on the cowl is removed and I see no marks on the frame..I understand there was no such thing as a vin # in 46? and they went off the engine block? All I know Is it has that exterior frame support plate on it, that maybe makes it a 2 ton? or 1.5? Its absolutley awesome that it runs n moves..lol..cant wait to get started..The title I have for it is a 53 btw...wrong but a clean title none the less..wish I knew more about it..the ppl I bought from have no idea as well..said it was a farm truck. They old owners ( who knows how long ago) before the ones I bought it from, had coated it in whatever paint was laying around (thankfully) Its got some rust , but the frame is mint and most of the cab is great..just door rot mainly..
Anyone have a hookup on doors, glovebox door, non widowmaker rims, instrument cluster, heater ect...lol...I need alot of parts, just need to know what year I'm working with. It has a hi/low rear btw.. Thx in advance folks...I'm stoked to get started!!! Last edited by Rob C; 11-26-2017 at 08:53 PM. Reason: pics |

Could not tell from pics but if door key on passenger side is not in the door handle it is newer than a 41. Depending on part needed --41-46 body and interior parts Cab parts 38-46 I think. You will probably need to half skin the doors , maybe cab corners, other. Should have a 2 piece headliner.
Is there a tag under the hood on the cowl passenger side? Does it have a title? http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/models/

thx for reply Dennis...Unfortunately someone removed tag from cowl..tile I have is a diff year, but good...Appreciate the info, I joined stovebolt for this truck too..they seem to be more of a heavy duty truck forum. Also, you seem correct in the body years..same info on that site as well so thanks.

The truck is a 42-46. Most body parts are interchangeable 39-46. The dash is different in a 39, the rear window mounting is different 39-41 to 42-46. The firewall is different 39-40 to 41-46. If you shop around you can find better doors but they are getting harder to get, most of them are going to need repair on the bottoms.

Re: 1946? Chevy 2 ton?
Rob, If you have any trouble with the state regarding title transfer or registration, pm me. I just got a brand new title for a Dodge truck I bought (without a title), for a project. I know how to get you a title with the correct year and make truck.
Where you at in Central Jersey? I am in N. Jersey Warren County. |
