Father / Son 1957 Build
My son is almost 15 already and we are starting on a father / son truck build for him. I can't believe how fast they grow up. We purchased a 59 short fleetside truck a little while back. Its a little rough and had no title but the price was right. I have a 57 cab with title and most of the front clip. We also acquired a 1989 chevy k10 blazer. The plan is to use the 57 cab, 59 frame, doors, and bed and the running gear out of the blazer. I just ordered the patch panels for the cab so we are going to get started on it this week. The plan is to take the rocket off the bed and make it look more like a cameo bed. At some point someone made flares out of the wheel openings but I still have the wheel openings I cut out of the bed for big bertha. If the bed was in better shape we would not be going this route but now he will have a custom bed. We have a year and 3 months to complete the project. I wish when I was a kid I could of had a kick ass 57 pickup to start out driving. Here are a couple pics of when we bought it.
The proud new owner Headed for home

Awesome! You are starting a Lifetime of Memories for the Both of you. When I was his age my dad and rebuilt a 47 Chevy Business Coupe. When I turned 16 I used it to get my License. I see a Proud Owner and if it turns out like your Truck - WOW

Re: Father / Son 1957 Build
Very cool...My son just turned 13 and I'm always asking him what kind of car/truck he likes so we can do something similar. His reply is "I like your 48 truck" dad...yeah that wont happen.
Thanks Marc

Re: Father / Son 1957 Build
We were able to get a few hours this weekend to work on the truck. It was a good time and we spent a lot of time talking. More than we have in a while since he is a teenager and thinks he knows it all. I think this truck will mean more to me than I imagined. Anyhow .... we started with a door. Typical bottom rust. We bought an inside bottom and will make the outer bottom. He had fun learning how to deal with rusted bolts and the power of heat. Here are some pics.
We will tackle the outer bottom next weekend. I figure a couple hours a weekend should keep us on track to have it done by the time he is able to drive it.
