68' C10 motor angle

Folks,
need some help from forum members. Just picked up a '68 C10 (2wd) that I am getting ready for an engine break in after I get everything connected. I bought the truck with a rebuilt 1977 350 motor & T350 tranny. Motor has never been fired & is currently bolted to frame w/tranny/driveline, ect.
My problem is the motor sits at an angle (the front higher). The tranny has an after market crossmember that I tried shimming about 2" to bring front of motor down; that helped but not enough.
I started looking closer @ the motor mounts & they are the clam shell type which seem to make the motor sit rather high. Is this the right motor mounts for my application?
I have a '72 Suburban (350/350) & I noticed it has the straight rubber mounts & can tell engine sits closer to frame bracket.
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers

The carburetor needs to be level. That is what is important.

Re: 68' C10 motor angle

Thanks for the response. I am aware the carb base needs to be reasonably level. The problem is the angle on engine is such that the fan blades are about a half inch above the top of radiator. I have a shroud & need to center the fan (18" dia) in the shroud. I put a level on intake base & the bubble is sloped quite a bit.
Does anyone know if I switch from the currently installed clam shell motor mounts to the straight rubber design I will get engine to drop ?
Thanks !

Re: 68' C10 motor angle

It sounds like you've got mismatched parts or installed wrong. I've got 73+ C10 clam shell mounts and frame stands in my truck, and the engine sits low and level in the frame.

First pic is of passenger side mount. Couldn't get a good side shot to show level, but you can see how low the engine sits.

Second pic is a set of 73+ C20 frame stands. They look like they'd raise the engine a few inches compared to the C10 stands.

I don't have any of the 72 only, big block only, clam shell mount setup to show for comparison, but iirc it's similar to the 73+ C20 setup.
