Need help figuring out year of truck

I bought this truck for it's axles to put under my 70 K5. Can anyone assist in figuring out what year this truck is. It is a Bonaza model and the VIN is CKR248S1295_ _.

It's a rust bucket but looks like the axles are in good shape.

It's a 1978. You can fully decode it here http://www.73-87.com/7387stuff/7380vin.htm Also if you have any extra parts being a Bonanza let me know. I'm needing some interior pieces for my truck.

Mark, are those the tow hooks that will fit the holes on a 67-72?

79BIG10 - let me know what you need, I don't think I need anything out of the interior. It does have a tilt steering column if that interest you.

Great to hear what year it is, will be handy in case I need to get any parts for the axles or anything else I am going to use. I will run out and see if the engine is still a 400, I was just assuming it would be a 350 - that would be cool.

I plan to grab the power brake booster, the steering gear box and engine + accessories, and of course the axles. Can't really think of anything else that I need. The auto tranny, transfer case and driveshafts are gone. It does have some awesome rusty sheetmetal - course I doubt anyone is gonna be beating down my door to get that stuff.

Yukon Jack,

Is the truck an automatic or 4 speed? If it is a 4 speed (no column shift provision on the column itself), and Brandon doesn't want it, I would be interested in the column.

Thanks

It is an auto truck unfortunately. I take it the 4 speed tilts for your year trucks are as hard to find as for the 67-72.

79BIG10 here is a link to pics of the interior. http://yukon.b0xen.us/78partstruck/

How much would you want for the tilt column? Also how much would it be to ship to 53151? Thanks

I will find out about the wiper motor/washer pump. I just bought the truck and don't have a key or know any history on it, but should be able to cross some wires and see.

Let me see if 79BIG10 is interested since he has shown an interest in the interior. I will need to get the column pulled first to get an estimate on the shipping. I don't have the key and you might be able to see in one of the pics that the shift lever is bent slightly towards the steering wheel.

Yukon Jack:

An observation...

It appears to me that various interior parts from other years and models have found their way into that vehicle. Assuming that the 1978 VIN is that of the original vehicle, I can tell you that the dash bezel and instument cluster, steering wheel and dash pad (along with the right side woodgrain applique containing the Bonanza nameplate) are indicative of a '76 or '77 model year truck. The interior door panels appear to be from a '78-80 Silverado (Bonanza/Scottsdale models' were different). Your truck also appears to be wearing original custom cloth upholstery which is not typical of a Bonanza-equipped truck. Other interior cues, like the absence of a headliner, are consistent with a '78 CustomDeluxe/Scottsdale/Bonanza trim level rig. Hmmm...

Just thought I would mention this.

Happy parts searching/swapping!

Ken Lewis
