1970 Blazer Steering Column Replacement
My steering column is in bad shape and I have decided to replace it with a Tilt Steering Column.
I have $600 in LMC Truck Giftcards, so my only option is to buy through LMC. *** 1970 Blazer Manual Balzer (Floor Shift). *** "NOT" currently a Tilt Column. There seems to be two different options and just wondering which option to go with. Im looking for the easiest option with little to no modifications needed. Do I just buy the column? Are there other parts needed? LMC Truck page just is not offering much help. |

Re: 1970 Blazer Steering Column Replacement
My '70 had a non-tilt...but it's an automatic....I simply got a tilt column and it bolted right into place....not sure of the details but some of the wiring harnesses have a curved connector and some have a flat connector....there is an adapter available to correct this difference if you run into that issue.

Have you tried calling them? I've spoken to them before and they have been very helpful.

Yes, I called them. The person I spoke to just read the entire Catalog Page to me, then said "Whelp doesnt say anything else"...
I may have been speaking to someone new? |

That's not the response I thought you would get You may try calling back and see if there is someone more helpful. I've had much more helpful responses!

Re: 1970 Blazer Steering Column Replacement
Looking at the catalog page......it looks like the one you need is the 38-4874 "floor shift" unless you want the custom one shown in the center of the page...not sure where you're confusion is coming from?

Re: 1970 Blazer Steering Column Replacement
Im not confused, just want to be sure I buy everything all at once. Dont want to get knee deep into the column then find out there was a special kit or part I needed to buy to complete the conversion.
Do you recommend the 38-4874 over the customer one? Is there much of a difference other than Chrome? |

Quote:
fairly simple swap...when you remove the collar that clamps on the splined shaft (under the hood)...be sure to remove the bolt completely....otherwise it won't come out because of the indention in the shaft...be sure to line the new one back up the same way... Too bad you are limited to LMC....I bought a really nice rebuilt one for $300 from a guy on one of the boards...good luck with it...post questions if you need to...
