I'd like to choke the choke
MY '76 has had some trouble starting lately. It turns-over well, but takes too long to fire. After it does fire it splutters and threatens to die for a couple of minutes, then runs well.
I'm thinking choke adjustment? Any thoughts/advice?

Mine did that for awhile and I found that it was the coil in the HEI that had started going south....replaced it and everything got alot better.

Just wondering...if its the coil wouldn't the problem be consistent rather than getting better as the truck warmed up?

this is true.... I know that mine was REAL hard to start and after it started it would run fine...so you may be right on that one...
Just throwing out ideas.... Is this a manual or electric choke? |

First thing to check is choke. Sounds like mine when I had unpluged my choke by mistake.

I'm suspecting the choke. The mileage is the s#%$^. I'm wondering if the thing is getting stuck, either open or closed.

If its not opening (electric choke disconnected) then it will suck down the gas and run like crap probably. Stuck open then it may get better after it warms up.
