Sat Morning - Need Help!

I'm in the middle of removing the cowl. Screws came out fine, rusted and painted over (previous owner's paint job), but got 'em out.

I can't get the wiper arms off. I followed the directions in the Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual - pulled the arm away from the glass to unlock it from the shaft, and pull off. No go. Will not pull off. I just hit the joint with some PB Blaster and came in to the board to ask for answers.

Any ideas?

No one locally had the KD pliers so I used a pair of channellocks and "wiggled" them off.

I would guess to do a little spring cleaning. If you haven't taken yours off you should. You will probably find a load of leaves and crap down between the cab and the inner and outer fenders.

yep i cleaned mine out about a week ago just stuck the shop vac hose down as far as i could go on either side and then took the vents out and put the hose in there to

Mine had little clips on them, holding the wiper arms to the shaft, i think i remember pulling them down with a screwdriver...then they pulled right out. Only took a few seconds.

Well.......

Pulled the cowl initially to replace the hardned, virtually non-existant hood to cowl seal. Also, I have leaks that get the carpet wet every time it rains and wanted to see if the area leading to the plenum chamber for the interior side vents was rusted through. Looks like all the joint areas ar OK, not great, but not rusted.

What I did find was a torn out area on the right side that looks like it must have been the original antenna location. The cowl was fine, but the area just forward of the fender attachment bolts under the cowl had a hole about 1 1/2" across that pushed through into the cab area at the top of the plenum chamber for the right inner vent chamber. When it rains the water must run down the inner cowl area and right into this hole. I patched it with some waterproof epoxy and thin aluminum (from an A & W root beer can) for now. It will hold until I take that fender off to replace the right side inner fender and the front radiator support structure later on. With the fender off I should be able to clean up the distorted metal and get a good permenent patch on both pieces of the body.

Truck is a good daily driver but I have discovered that :

Oops. Continued

Posted before I was done.
I've discovered that:
1. A new and shiny paint job does NOT mean that inner rust was taken care of first, OR that panels were removed for a good, quality job.
2. Working with body panels means getting them aligned back into place properly - and that is a pain in the rear. I think I'll get all the rust repair done that I can do, then take it to a professional to get the poorly done paint job off and have a good paint job done on it. Same colors, just applied properly.

Thats going to be a couple of years away. Until then, its find and fix the rust one area at a time and keep Truck on the road. Truck seems to operate better the more its driven and the more its "work" related. Hauled new hard wood flooring the other day - Bed was full from the top of the wheel housing down so it was a pretty ggod load. Truck rode better than usual. No strain.

Hmmmm. Sorry to take so much space in answering a simple question. Good thing you didn't ask me what time it was, I'd have told you how to build the watch.

these trucks are made to haul heavy loads .... my 71 is really smooth when i have it loaded down ..... feels like im gliding on air at highway speeds ..... any tips with removing the cowl .. i need to do that this weekend ...good ole spring cleaning

'79 4 bolt main 350 with Sportsman II heads, alloy pistons, high lift cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold, Edelbrock 750 cfm carb, some cheap headers.
