1953 3100 body on a 1971 k5 chassis
This was my Pops High School Truck. He never got rid of it, always remember seeing it sitting on our backyard. My dad promised me when i was 16 I would get the truck. That day came and went (i got a 99 4runner and drove that **** out of it). Two years later when i was 18 my dad one day randomly said, "let get the truck running for you." Wow this day is really happening, we pulled the truck out of the backyard and brought it over to my dad's friend who is a mechanic. We got a new gas tank, sending unit, parts to rebuild the carb. I thought i was finally getting the truck. Well long story short. We got some parts to get it running and it ended up sitting in his back yard for 12 years. About 3 weeks ago I had AAA tow it to my house. It is now in my garage waiting to be put back to life. When my dad got the truck when he was in high school he bought it already built he didn't do anything to it. The body is a 1953 Chevy 3100 and yes it still has it's tag in the door. The chassis is a 1971 first gen k5 4x4 with the 292 and a 3 speed automatic TH350. I will find more out when i really get into the project. I got the motor start last week. we pulled all the wires and only had the starter and coils hooked up. It ran perfectly. Here are some photos of it and a video of it idling.

Nice! That’s the same route I went with my 57 3100. It’s on an 88 k5 frame. Lots of help in the 47-59 section of the forum.

Looks like the California weather was amazingly easy on your truck considering it sat outside for many years. So much rust on this coast. Looks like a fun project, enjoy it. Also neat that it's been in your family for a long time. I have some of my Dad's stuff,... tools, guns, but unfortunately no cars or trucks.

Re: 1953 3100 body on a 1971 k5 chassis
Just took out all the gauges and old wiring. Going to start cleaning the dirt out today and hopefully get the wire harness in next week. Here are some photos of the inside and and original gauges. I cleaned this one a little bit and it looks nice but the tachometer the needle is broken but still works.
