1969 gmc 2500 frame restore help.
So the first thing I wanna do is have the frame checked for straightens and have the frame pulled or adjusted if needed. Than I wanna remove the bed, cab, suspension and all to just frame only. Sand down, prep and paint the frame.
The question is, is this a good start before doing body work?? Thanks. |

If you think that the frame has been racked at some point I would say yes

You can measure the frame yourself very easily to get an idea where it is at. Just an fyi. All you have to do is measure from the same points on both sides of the frame in an “x”. If it’s square the both measurements will be the same. Mine was about 1/4 inch out in one spot but I honestly didn’t worry about it. Much more than that and I’d get it looked at.

Re: 1969 gmc 2500 frame restore help.
Thanks both. I do remember now that the previous owner locked up the tires in the rain and hit a guard rail. He said nothing bad though. The hood has to be pushed to the left to open or close. Previous owner doesn't remember if that happened before or after the guard rail or if maybe the hood just needs to be aligned. Either way, the pervious owner, my close uncle who helped raise me, had this truck before i was born, is gonna help me restore this rig.
