T Bird/Taurus Electric fan wiring

Hey fellas, anybody ran the 94 to 97 T Bird, Taurus electric fan in their rig? Just got mine feom Summit last night, and stupid me didnt see where it said nothing was included lol.. ive tracked down the 3 wire connector. But now its a matter of what else I need to hook it all up and make it work. I know some relays and probably a manual switch are in order, bit I'm trying to be as frugal as possible lol! Under $30 would be spectacular.

Why that fan? Cost? I run a 3300cfm fan from Flex-a-lite Black magic https://www.amazon.com/Flex-lite-180.../dp/B000CNHFNA Fan control from Speedway Motors. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speed...uges,2356.html

Exactly right LV, cost lol. This one was 79 shipped.. But I mean if the flex a lite is a simple plug and play, and I'm gonna need 100 in parts to make this one work, I will save and do the flex a lite lol.. what did you have to do to make yours work in the rig??

Re: T Bird/Taurus Electric fan wiring

I had left over aluminum i made brackets from... 1x1 and flat but comes with own. You see fit on 62 og radiator. Price is what I posted. The speedway controler vs the flex-a-lite is better and hooks to water temp sender and not a probe through radiator. So if temp says 180 on gauge you set fan on off to it.

Re: T Bird/Taurus Electric fan wiring

Get fan without controler, lower price and buy other controler. Or use on/ off toggle. Two wire fan.

I used a fan from a Cougar XR7 with a 100 plus amp alternator and 80 amp relay. Been running this set up for 4 years with zero issues. Hope this helps.

Re: T Bird/Taurus Electric fan wiring

No need to spend all that money on the flexalite. The Lincoln Mark VIII Fan, which should be the same as the T Bird fan, is plenty for these old trucks. They are very reliable and move a ton of air. I've had my truck in 115 degree heat, in stop and go traffic with the A/C on and not had the heat gauge rise above about half. It's a big 18" fan, I got mine for around $70. A decent 2 speed fan controller, or dual fan controller and you'll be set. If you spend much more than $150 or so, I'd be surprised.

My set up is a Mark VIII fan with a Dakota Digital fan controller and relays. You can set the exact temp you want it to turn on and off the high and low speeds and customize a few other settings as well. A couple years in and it's doing great so far.

Sure you can spend $285 on just the fan...but why? It's rated for 3,300 CFM whereas the Mark VIII fan is shown between 4,000-5,000.

Re: T Bird/Taurus Electric fan wiring

This is what I used... they have a 200 degree switch as well. I do keep an extra kit in the glove box in case something fails. Has not failed in over a year. I have had no problems with the Taurus fan. Works great in high temps and easy to get an affordable replacement if necessary.

Re: T Bird/Taurus Electric fan wiring

If you are talking about the three connector to the fan I picked one up at the pick and pull. Make sure you use heavy gauge wire. I used 10 gauge because that fan draws some amps when it first kicks on. You will also want to upgrade your alternator to at least a 12si. I installed a 100 amp out of a 97 Buick. Here is the wiring diagram that came with the kit. Also that is a 2 speed fan, I just wired to the high speed side.

Re: T Bird/Taurus Electric fan wiring

I used the Taurus Electric fan, BMW dual temp sensor and relays from a volvo 850 wagon to control all of it. There was also an auto reset breaker for the hot wire coming from the battery to the relays. Let me know if you need more details.

I'm not understanding the attitude of this post. The T-Bird fan swap is very popular among hot rodders. It's an inexpensive way to get a good cooling fan that works and is reliable. Just because you chose to spend 3 times the money doesn't make what he's doing "pos Ford junkyard special"
