Can I buy just one board for the bed of a 68 stepside?

I would guess that shipping for one piece would cost more than you could have it cut for locally.

Those are the dimensions I used, perfect fit.
Table saw and dado blades certainly makes it easier. Cabinet maker by trade so that part of the resto was nice.
Certainly tougher with a router, router in a table would work.
Anyone in Cleveland area I would be happy to assist milling for another board member.
Like others noted, find a shop close to you. They may just do it for a 12 pack of long necks.

I'm really looking for an old board, maybe where someone has redone their bed, and has a board that's still good. I'm not doing a new bed, just replacing a rotten board. I'm in NC and willing to drive a little as I know it would be expensive to ship

So stain it with "Vinegar and Steel Wool" stain. Then put it out in the sun for a few days. It'll weather it to match your original, or close to it anyway

Thanks Matt, I guess I'm going to have to put in a new bed. When I started tearing it apart, it turned out to be worse than I thought.

Anyone with even just a table saw can make that board. If you were closer i would do it for you. Maybe even try a full service lumber yard? Not a big box of course.

Well, if you're going to replace the whole thing, it's pretty easy to mill them yourself. Use the de ensign that were posted already, and take your time cutting. For the wood, go to a lumber yard that cuts actual demensional lumber ( not the big name stores), and you an get most anything you want. I can say this because this is what I did. I used yellow pine stained it to my liking, and coated it with BoiledLinseed Oil to protect it.

You can buy the precut kits or if you are on a tight budget or would just like to do it yourself you can do it at home. I have done two at home with no saw horses or bench vise. I had only my tape measure, square and skill saw and a couple of pair of vise grips. The first one I used red oak and the second one I used #2 yellow pine. They fit nice and held up very well. Of course the job is easier with a table saw or router but it can be done very well without those tools.
